Looking to upgrade my PC

Recommended Posts

Yea looks like your right Illiad. I guess im gonna break down and see what i can do about building a PC on the cheap. What do you think the minimum PSU would have to be to run an

AMD dual core CPU this combo that way i get a motherboard too http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.581112

this ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148150

and this video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127515

the PSU im thinkin of is this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817709027

I already have an OS that i can use so I don't need to buy that

I'm thinking somewhere around 600W maybe but I'm not sure. Do you think 600 would be to high or would it be just right to leave me room to grow in the future? Right now my tower has a 350W in it and i know that wont be nearly enough to handle the demands.

I'm gonna keep my tower but add the missing fans and modify the side housing to take a large fan cause it already has vent holes punched in the side from the factory. The specs say 80 or 92mm fans that can be added so i will get a cheap set of them and I will just have to figure out how to connect the front one but that will depend on the motherboard. The perforation in my side cover is big enough to fit 2 80mm fans (opening is 165x114mm) but i would have to wait to put them in till after i get the stuff and make sure nothing will interfere with them and the internals.

Let me know what you think of this. I thought long and hard on what would be a good combo to get. I'm definitely sticking with AMD tho because in my past experiences with Intel I suffered a lot of blue screens of death and i have yet to have one with my AMD.

That's actually a very good combo. Those Athlon II dual cores are pretty nice. My boyfriend and I bought many of those for my family's new computers.

That motherboard is nice too for the price, Biostar isn't all that bad. I had one of their motherboards before I went to the one I currently have.

Are you going to be playing video games on your system? That video card you picked out there is very very slow.

600W will keep you going for awhile :) I'd recommend these though.

you wanna pay a little bit more for PSUs. I've had my luck with my cheap-y Rosewill 450W, a lot of people claim their stuff is a shot in the dark.

As for your case there. Yes, I would add a fan to the rear and side for proper ventilation. Is that a mid tower case or a micro ATX case btw? The motherboard you picked out is ATX (I'd stick with that)

What would you recommend for a video card because i plan on playing games that are graphically demanding (Fallout 3 and so fourth).

My case is a Mid tower ATX and its actually made by Rosewill lol. Its not a half bad case in my opinion because i don't need anything fancy (like the ones with the led lights and clear side panels). Those types in my opinion are a waste of money unless you like that kind of stuff.

My board in my case right now is a micro ATX and hardly takes up any space at all and i do have the mount holes for a normal size board (I checked last night when i had my case side panel off).

I'd recommend a 5770 too, affordable and pretty awesome ;) I have one myself. Fallout 3 will run lovely :)

OK, good good :) Yeah, me too. I have a simple Coolermaster case, no fancy lights or a clear panel....I like it to be simple...no fancy doo dads and all that lol. I just have a fan controller that my friend gave me for my two 80mm fans. They are extremely loud when they are at full speed, I just keep them all the way turned down. Hated it when I didn't have it haha, sounded like a small aircraft :P
