SteveAnwalt
Hello. I am trying to install several different mods to Oblivion, such as reneers guard overhaul, some helms' deep thingy, a word mod for Anduril, and the only one that works, or even shows up in my data file section of the oblivion menu, in the Reneers' guard overhaul. So............ um, what's going on? I'm downloading these mods, getting them to my program files/oblivion/data dealio, but they're still not showing up in the start menu of the game. Any help? Hickory
I'm downloading these mods, getting them to my program files/oblivion/data That's your problem. Uninstall Oblivion and reinstall it outside of Program Files. Somewhere like C:\Games\Oblivion.

David Brasher
Vista / Windows 7 can be the pits. Kind of ridiculous having to devise stratagems to defeat your own computer's security system to use your game. It will kind of cool when Skyrim comes out and it is designed for Windows 7. Unless Microsoft decides to come out with a new operating system named "Vista Strikes Back" or something.
SteveAnwalt
No kidding. "Vista Strikes Back!" The blue screen of death would get a blue screen of death. Hey, Um, you may notice I'm a noob at getting these mods working, and thanks for the help, but it's still not working. Oblivion is in a new folder called GAMES and everything. So, how do I get the mods from this website into gameplay? I am so lost and confused! :'( *crawls into corner and cries*
roquefort
Sorry if this is an obvious question, but did you activate the mods after installing them? EDIT: Just to add, some mods need OBSE (script extender) to work properly, and if you're using any but the simplest mods, install OBMM (the mod manager) if you haven't already. It makes it all so much easier  This might help.. Edited January 28, 2011 by roquefort
bben46
Are you unzipping the mods? Almost all mods are downloaded in a zipped format such as 7z (7-zip) .rar (winrar) or .zip (winzip) And they MUST be unzipped to work.
SteveAnwalt
Ok, so I got the jest of it now, thanks. Except now that I have the mods in place, they aren't showing up in gameplay. Have them uncompressed and OBMM'd and all, checked in the data files section of the startup dealio, and now they don't show up in the game. So what did I do wrong? BTW, that was an excellent tutorial roquefort, thanks a ton.
bben46
If they are installed and don't show in the game you just found the Windows Vista, Win7 UAC. It is a 'feature' that prevents changes to programs installed in a set of protected folders called Program files. And that is what mods are, changes. Oblivion was written using WinXP which does not have the UAC. The best way to avoid UAC problems - now and later is to reinstall the game OUTSIDE of the program files (where the installer puts it by default) I use C:\Games\Oblivion Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.
