lunchablesqt
Hey guys, i am currently playing oblivion with my main and only charector being a mystic elf (i think thats the name lol). I recently saw another great looking new race mod (tolkein elves), and i was wondering if i downloaded the tolkien elf mod would it change my current race(mystic elf), and if i would be able to customize the new races' facial attributes along with the hair etc, much like in the begining of the game. Also the tolkein mod requires quite a few additionl mods to work properly, such as the "Oblivion Patch 1.2.0.416", i am currently playing the GOTY edition deluxe oblivion for steam, and i think i would already have the patch installed since its the last game+expansions released. I am using the latest OBMM to manage all my addons and i was wondering if i would just have to disable/uninstal them using the OBMM to make way for the new body mods that would conflict (maybe). So sorry for the long post but im very new to the whole oblivion/pc mods and reading the FAQ's and google searching havent really clarified anyhting for this situation, Thank you in advance :) Edited January 28, 2011 by lunchablesqt
Hickory
The Tolkien Elves is a race mod, not a body replacer. That means that you cannot change your current character without losing all of your stats, and/or messing up some internal counters -- changing race via console, as some will inevitably tell you, is not 100% safe. You would do better to just start a new character with the Tolkien Elves. What you should do, whichever route you take, is to use BOSS and Wrye Bash (to create a Bashed Patch) when you use multiple race/beauty mods. Maigrets
You can also use a save game manager to create different profiles for each character and race. Or Wyre Bash, but I find this save manager does everything I need used with OBMM. There are a couple of others, but I've been using this for a very long time, even when I was using FCOM and Bashed patches.http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2771 Actually that's a different version of it. Unless the name has changed the one I use seems to have disappeared from the site, or I didn't look hard enough. The screen shots look slightly different and I know there was an earlier version. It's file name is Tes_IV_Save_Manager 1.8.5 and it's been around since 2006. You will also need Dot NetFramework otherwise it won't work. I don't know about Windows 7 or Vista as I'm still with XP, but it works fine for me. If you have a huge mod list like I used to have, Wrye bash might be a better solution for you, but it's not as simple for new users depending on what you need. I have around ten different custom races in use and all characters have different mod setups. You create separate save folders for each profile and load that one with the save manager ( check the readme for details). No other race or cosmetic mod should interfere then as only the mods needed for a specific character will be loaded, not counting texture and animation replacers that don't use an esp. However, you will still need to be careful of mods that use different eye meshes or you'll get the "googly eye syndrome." There are solutions for that though. Your game should already be fully patched from what you've said, but if it's not you'll find very few mods will work properly and will cause crashes or not even load. Edited for spelling despite the spell checker. :wallbash: Edited January 29, 2011 by Maigrets
