A quick question about mod legality stuffs.

Hello, I'm a bit new to all this so sorry if this is a dumb question. Just something I wanted to know.

I recently made a companion mod for myself using audio files from another game. Since it was just meant for me I figured no one would even know, let alone get upset about it.

I showed a friend it and he said it was rather good and that I should upload it to the Nexus, in which I told him that I probably couldn't since the audio was from another game. But he brought up that the game the audio is from is completely free, plus the place I downloaded the audio freely from is an offical site of the game.

Since the game is free and the audio was being offered freely does that mean I am allowed? I looked over the game's website and couldn't find anything that allows or disallows use of their content in other things. Just wondering if that means that I could upload it to the nexus or it means that no one knows and I'd be better off keeping it to myself.

(Also sorry if this is the wrong section to ask this, forum rules and stuff are new to me aswell, I normally just keep to myself.)

Unless it states you can use/redistribute then you can not upload full stop no matter if you own the game, its a free game etc.

You could always try sending the makers/ community manager of where ever you got them from for permission and you might get a reply allowing it.
