esternogligent
First off, I've already extensively modded both Skyrim and New Vegas, using both Nexus Mod Manager and, more recently, Mod Organizer. My modded Skyrim currently runs about 150 mods with literally no crashing.Even before that I tried modding Skyrim manually a bit before it inevitably broke the game once I loaded my Data folder with hundreds of mod files. So I'm fairly seasoned in using Managers, not so much in manually modding. In light of Fallout 4's reveal, I'm now firing up my PC version of Fallout 3 that I got on sale from Steam a year or so ago and just never played. Using Mod Organizer, I got a few mods already working like Fallout Wanderer's Edition, Mart's Mutant Mod, Fellout, RobCo Certified and even Mini Hideout. These all work perfectly.However... what I can't get to work are visual enhancements, most notably NMCs Texture Pack for FO3, and Dimonized Type3 fem bodies. With Type 3, it appears the meshes are working, but the textures are NOT. My female Lone Wanderer is topless with funky looking black underwear. The skin textures and breast shadows look vanilla and are all distorted and in the wrong place; a sign that it's a texture meant for a differently shaped mesh. Now, when I look at all the official install instructions, not using a manager, it seems to be as simple as just copying the mod's "Textures" folder into FO3's "Data" folder and allowing it to merge/overwrite. This is what I did with Skyrim two years ago, and it worked fine until having too many mods started to conflict. Now this is my problem: I have no Textures folder. I also have no Meshes folder. "Textures" and "Meshes" are listed as .bsa files, not folders. [see attached screenshot]Nexus Mod Manager actually loads the mod's Textures and Meshes folders in the Data folder like it's supposed to, but it still doesn't show in game. Before anyone asks, yes I have Archive Invalidation on, and also have it enabled in Mod Organizer when I try that method.Neither Skyrim or New Vegas are setup like this. Is it normal to have .bsa files instead of actual folders? Is it something specific to the Game of the Year Edition? Is this why the mod's textures aren't showing up in game? Disclaimer: I've Googled and searched this forum as well as MO's S.T.E.P. guide and anyone having these issues ends up resolving it by manually getting those Textures and Meshes into their Data folders. No one has ever described this issue of literally not having the folders in the first place. If this has already been covered/resolved, please just link me there. Edited June 13, 2015 by esternogligent
M48A5
When Fallout 3 is first installed, everything is in .bsa files (Bethesda Softworks Archive). Since you don't have a meshes and textures folder in the data folder, add them. Since you have the experience of modding Skyrim, you should know how to add a folder to your computer. Before you start adding mods with mod organizer, read the instructions on the mod page.
esternogligent
So... even though Nexus Mod Manager is actuIly adding its own "Textures" and "Meshes" folders from the mod, those folders (even with the same exact names) are just ignored by the game unless you create blank ones first?? WTFSo I first need to create empty Textures and Meshes folders in my Data folder, and then copy the mod's Texture and Meshes folders into Data, overwriting and merging the blank, empty folders by with the same name that I just created? How is that not redundant? I don't know why that would work but I'll go through the motions and see. I also finally found another topic of someone else having this issue: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/160911-installing-dimonized-type-3-and-everything-else/ Seriously, if by default everyone has to *create* two new folders, that can't be added by NMM, why isn't this issue more prevalent? M48A5
It could be that the mod you are trying to add with Nexus Mod Manager cannot be installed correctly with NMM. Not every mod is compatible with NMM. NMM does not handle all FOMods properly. If the mod contains texture and mesh files, they should be added by NMM, if the mod is NMM compatible. You do not have to create empty mesh and texture folders in the data folder. Just copy the entire data folder from the mod into the fallout folder. esternogligent
OK, looks like it works now. Mod Organizer's Archive Invalidation does not work. The program version did not work either and the manual version can't be installed with MO.What I had to do was deactivate the program version of Archive Invalidation Invalidated and enable the built-in Archive Invalidation in the updated Nexus Mod Manager. With that and only that enabled, the textures work. I then had to migrate all 50 or so of my mods from MO into NMM but all seems well now. I still wish I could get this to work with MO though...
