David Brasher
So to clarify your problem, are you saying that you can start a game of Oblivion and play clear through character generation in the prison and sewers, but when you exit out into sunlight, your system gets overloaded and lags so bad that it crashes? Oblivion is a very resource intensive game and cannot handle outdoor areas well. The best of computers have trouble outdoors. Fallout 3 handles it much better. I think the programing must be much more efficient. I have high hopes that Skyrim will work well outdoors using tricks learned from Fallout. So if your computer is too weak for Oblivion, remove all your mods, and turn all your settings down to the very minimum. Some people install the mod "Streamline" to play Oblivion on weak computers. The result of all this will be that your game will look absolutely terrible. It will look like you are playing Daggerfall or Atari or Pong or something. But you have your imagination, and you might be able to avoid crashes and get your frame rate high enough that you can enjoy the game.
chaospearl
... Smooth... I don't know what went through your mind when you read David's post that obviously upset you so much, but I just re-read the post three times and I can't quite find the part where he says "Streamline makes your game suck, it's a horrible mod and you shouldn't use it unless you want everything to look like Pong." He says this: remove all your mods, and turn all your settings down to the very minimum He suggests Streamline as a way to help Oblivion run on a bad computer, then says that the result of all this -- meaning the turning down of settings as far as they'll go and removing of all mods -- will be, well, Pong. I really don't think he meant that Streamline is the thing that would cause Pongness. Streamline does sometimes turn your settings down on the fly, which can definitely make the game look worse, but a) you can easily turn that particular feature off in Streamline's config, and b) if you already had everything down at the absolute minimum there's nothing left for Streamline to decrease. I do not think any offense to Streamline was intended here. It's a cool mod, and what makes it so cool isn't merely that it can help old computers play Oblivion, it's that you can modify its config so that it only uses the features you like. I don't like Streamline changing my video settings either, so I tell it not to. I love its other features.
Smooth613
It's not the first time he's used a similar analogy stating that Streamline makes your game look like Arena, or Daggerfall, or an Atari game, which is simply false. I've seen it before and here it is again, so I stated my opinion to his comment.
