My last, desperate call for help

Right, I'm just going to cut to the chase: my game is crashing. BUT, it's not your usual CTD (crash-to-desktop) when I start the game up or when the intro sequence plays. No, the crashes I'm experiencing are far more inconsistent and strange. So I'm just going to give you the scenarios where my game is crashing: (I will explain, in further detail, of the listed crashes)


  • During combat
  • Interaction w/ environment
  • As soon as a save game loads

Now, the list is also rated in how often they occur. The combat one seems to occur the most, followed by the interaction w/ environment and then followed by the rare as soon as a save game is loaded crash. Now let me explain what each of the crashes are...


During combat crash

This crash occurs when I have initiated combat of some kind. More specifically, the crashes occur during or after I have killed an enemy. So for example, when I'm shooting a Mole Rat with a Hunting Rifle, the game will occasionally crash. This can also be said when I kill the aforementioned Mole Rat.


Interaction w/ environment crash

These crashes occur particularly when I interact with traps. When I disarm a landmine or bear trap, that's when the game crashes. I somehow think this crash type and the above crash type are somehow tied together since they both occur AFTER an action has been done.


Save game load crash

This is the rarest of the crash types I'm experiencing; as soon as a selected save game has been loaded (i.e. after I click 'continue') the game will crash just before the save game finishes loading. Again, this crash type is pretty rare but it still occurs.


So yeah, those are the crashes that I'm currently experiencing. I do indeed have mods installed and so I will display my load order near the bottom of this thread, along with my system specs.


I have tried numerous fixes and patches and absolutely none have prevailed. I've tried downloading the d3d9.dll file (which I shouldn't need to do because of the mods I have installed), I've tried using the 4gb enabler (using the large address aware enabler), I've tried using the fake fullscreen mod (i.e. the window borderless gaming one) and I've tried tinkering with the .ini files but nothing has worked, and I'm at my wits' end. I've spent literally hours trying to find fixes and workarounds but nothing, which is particularly why this thread is here.


I'm close to just giving up on Fallout 3 entirely because of this. The game is unplayable, and it's a shame, too, because there are some outstanding mods out there that I don't have the pleasure of fully experiencing because of these crashes. And no, I will not play the game unmodded because I've spent over 300 hours on Xbox 360 playing Fallout 3 back in the day.

P.S. Sorry for this great wall of text, but I want to supply as much information as I can so maybe, just maybe, there is someone out there that knows a fix to this misery.

As far as your load order, Fallout 3 MUST, ALWAYS, NO EXCEPTION, load first. The Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch can be placed after the last DLC.

 

DarNified UIF3.esp should be higher in your load order, just after the last .esm.

 

If you aren't using the plugin, uninstall it. The mesh and texture is in the Data folder, it will be loaded into memory.
