Klyten1379
First off sorry if this problem (and solution) has come up before, i didn't see any search function for the forum. Hey there guys im in need of some help. I have been trying to install HGEC body mod over the past few days but have met without sucess. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15802 This mod. I have successfuly installed other mods such as Xenius race compilation mod- which works, and various armour mods (which dont work as they require the HGEC mod- all i get when i try to equip them is a dissapearing body part). The HGEC one im having trouble with. Sometimes when i think its installed (as in it appears in the omod manager with a blue icon and i have selected options) it doesn't show up in the oblivion launcher data files and in game i just get dissapearing body parts. So could someone help with a walkthrough or pointers of the installation? In the installtion inscrutions it says to copy the archive- what exactly is the archive? And that i should copy it to (install folder\oblivion\obmm\omod. I have also tried manual installtion- copying the texture and mesh files to the oblivion data folders but that doesnt seem to work either- unlike other mods. Is this beacuse i cant find its 'eldar scrolls construction set' type file and put that into the data folder? Do i somehow have to delete the vannilla textures and meshes- how? I have the omod manager and are rather new to modding as you can no doubt tell. (I have success mods installed for dragon age too though so i do understand the process somewhat but this particialr mod and its installtion- and getting it to work is bamboozling me). If you need any screenshots or additional information i would be happy to provide it. Thanks in advance for any assistence. The prospect of an oblivion that actually looks good has fired my desire to play it again.
Bongu
here is what i suggest doing when installing REPLACERS. mods that replace a file with the same name. careful though, this is a pretty long process and it integrates the mod DIRECTLY INTO THE OFFICIAL .BSA FILES only do this if you are good with managing files and mods, also with keeping structure. I suggest using OBMM to extract the the Oblivion - Meshes.bsa, Oblivion - textures.bsa. and other .bsa that is in need of a replacement. these contains all the files the game actually reads directly. follow the structure of the HGEC body mod archive and find that in the official bsa file.replace the right body parts and only use on type of upperbody, lower body, ect. then rebuild the official .bsa files with the replacements in place and the game will now read the mod directly. thats what i do with spell sound replacers, body replacers, and magic self effect replacers. it can be a quite lengthy procedure but its what i do and i personally like ir, but we all have our own way of doing things. good luck! Luminiari
As far as I'm aware, there IS no plugin file. As long as you see the following in your data/meshes/characters/_male folder: femalefoot.nif femalehand.nif femalelowerbody.nif femaleupperbody.nif and, at the very least, the following in your data/textures/characters/imperial folder: footfemale.dds footfemale_n.dds handfemale.dds handfemale_n.dds The mod will have installed correctly. Bear in mind that the HGEC body mod is a replacer- it simply replaces existing meshes without adding anything new to the game. A mod that makes changes to gameplay or adds armour/weapons/etc. will need a plugin. Perhaps try using Archive Invalidation Invalidated! (Personally, I think editing the .bsa is risky. This method is simpler.)
Bongu
desuchan is right, editing the bsa is risky. but its perfectly safe if you know how to do it. also use this skeleton for all your NPCs Coronerras Maximum Compatibility Skeletons Oblivion » Animation its a great mod. again, I (me) would replace the file directly into the .bsa file but you can do whatever method you feel most comfortable with. Luminiari
Oh yes, Coronerra's Maximum Compatibility Skeletons are an absolute must. Edited January 31, 2011 by DesuChan
LFact
desuchan is right, editing the bsa is risky. but its perfectly safe if you know how to do it. However, it's not recommended for newbie users. Also, if you want to go back stock, unless you have backup, you will have to reinstall whole game. I'd rather extract replacers in right place, or build completely new bsa(not editing stock bsa).
Klyten1379
Ok so it looks like it has installed correctly. As far as I'm aware, there IS no plugin file. As long as you see the following in your data/meshes/characters/_male folder: femalefoot.niffemalehand.niffemalelowerbody.niffemaleupperbody.nif and, at the very least, the following in your data/textures/characters/imperial folder: footfemale.ddsfootfemale_n.ddshandfemale.ddshandfemale_n.dds The mod will have installed correctly It appeares to have isntalled as i have found these in the data folders, and i have a blue icon in the omod manager. The body however in game has disapeared. Would this be beacuse the vannilla meshes and textures are still there and conflicting with the mod? If so how do i remove them. Also how do i actually use the archive invalidation invalidated mod? i have installed it and can see/ use it, but im not sure what to do from there? Do i have to copy the mod files into it? Thanks for all the replies so far. Edited January 31, 2011 by Klyten1379
LFact
Also how do i actually use the archive invalidation invalidated mod? i have installed it and can it, but im not sure what to do from there? Do i have to copy the mod files into it? Archive Invalidation Invalidated will install dummy bsa file when installed. Then, it will add that dummy bsa name into Oblivion.ini to do BSA redirection. So you don't need to worry about archive invalidation until you reinstall the game.
Klyten1379
So i dont have to anything with it? Thanks for that but what about the dissapearing body parts? When i log into the game only the head and weapons are visable on my character. Also the human faces are black. I assume its something to do with the HGEC mod conflicting with some meshes and textures. How do i fix it?
Luminiari
Faces have nothing to do with HGEC- heads are taken care of separately.
