How do I edit notifications ?

Hello guys.

May I request a bit of help ?

I'm trying to edit a mod I'm using (Real Hunger)... more precisely, I'd like to alter the text of some of the notifications you often get as your character becomes hungry.

You know ? These notifications you get at the top of the screen, like "I feel peeckish. An apple or two would go down well."

I just wanna change a few words, to rephrase it more to my liking.

What's the easiest way to do it ?

I might have to use Construction Set ... then it's not a problem, I was already able to edit conversations using it, but for some reason I just can't figure how to edit this kind of notification.

Could somebody be kind enough to give me a lead ?

Judging by the way the mod sounds, the notifications should be through amessagebox of some sort. You'll need to locate the script that gives you the message and edit the line in player.message of that message.

Thanks for your help, ub3rman123 :)

That's exactly what I wish to do ... so, you're saying I should just locate the script triggering these messages, huh ?

I'm not sure how to do that... I'm really beginner when it comes to this.

At first, I tried to edit the esp file using the notepad, by just replacing the text I was interested in, but once I saved the esp, the game would crash.

I didn't expect such a small change to be such a big deal, so I guess I have to use a more complex esp editing software, such as Construction Set, right ?

I was able to figure by myself how to locate and alter dialogs using Construction Set (via the quest menu), but I can't find how to edit the notification text popups triggered by such scripts.

Any help ?

Yeah, the CS is the only thing that can edit .esp files.

I'll try downloading the mod and see if I can locate the scripts you need to change. Can you provide a download link, as well as the text in some of the messages you want changed, so I know when I've found them?

Wow, that's so very nice of you. I could hug you right now, lol.

Hm, I'm trying to alter some of the popup texts from a few mods, but if you can help me to figure out the the basic procedure for one mod, I guess I could probably work my way for the others.

Let's try with Real Sleep Extended 2.5.

You'll get notifications as your char gets sleepy and your stats get damaged. These are the ones I'd like to alter.

Edit :

I was able to achieve what I wanted by opening the esp directly from the script window.

Many thanks for your help :)

I'd just like to say how relieved I am that I'm not the only person who does things like this, lol.

Some of the messaging in my favorite mods just strikes me as incredibly dumb. It's an issue of personal taste, obviously. I'm just grateful for how easy it is to fix.

You can change pretty much any bit of text in the whole game, from the names of items to the message that you get from (whatever). Thanks for that, Bethesda.
