Deleted2177411User
As you might have guessed from the topics header, I'm having an issue with that footer onscreen that reads "loading area". The issue is that this pops up on screen every 30 or so seconds and I'm not sure why. Ok, yes, I have set every possible option to run a max settings but I've never experienced an issue before. I had this previously installed on a WD Black 640 with no problem. I have since installed a bunch of new components which I'll list. Win 7 Pro 64-bitIntel Core 2 Quad Q9400OCZ Vertex 2 120GB (updated to latest firmware)Nvidia GTX 460 SC (latest drivers)8GB OCZ Reaper PC2 6400 Now I have used one of the RAM boosters to overwrite my oblivion.exe to take control of 4GB of memory but there is no change in game play. I still have the footer pop up on screen fairly often. My only peace from it is in a dungeon which gets boring after a while. Any suggestions? Is there a mod for removing the loading area text? David Brasher
There is a mod called NoLoad. This mod removes the "Loading Area" text. But it will not do anything about the slow loading and the way your controls are frozen during the time when the message would ordinarily be displayed on the screen. Hickory
In your oblivion.ini try changing iPreloadSizeLimit=26214400 (default) to: iPreloadSizeLimit=104857600
Deleted2177411User
Thanks Dave, I'll look into getting Noload and setting it up. Hickory, I may have left out some vital information on my copy. I purchased the "Game of the Year" edition off of Steam which, as far as I can tell, has a different file directory than the retail. I don't see a "oblivion.ini" file but there is a "oblivion_default.ini" config file. Looking through it, I can't seem to locate a line for "iPreloadSizeLimit=26214400". I'm not sure though if this is a main config for the user or what the game uses for initial or default setup hence the name. Either way, thanks for the reply! I wouldn't be surprised if the Steam version gives me a hard time judging from past experiences with direct download games.

The file Hickory was referring to is the ...\Documents\mygames\oblivion\Oblivion.ini file. It is created on a fresh install (or when deleted) using the base characteristics from Oblivion_default.ini and Oblivion's review of your hardware. I didn't even think of looking in My Docs. I'll try that in a sec.... Ok, mine is currently set to "536870912" without me touching it. Again, I have used a quote "Ram Booster" so maybe this is what changed it.

I have noticed this on my rig when I run the game with a lot of graphics/environment mods... are you running with mods? Do you have a pagefile set? With big amounts of RAM, its often better to completely turn it off as you really dont need it, and some games/programs will run better. I would suggest a Defrag of your Oblivion folder if you had a conventional HDD, but its not too clever nor necassary to do that on an SSD. (BTW, you got the exact same SSD as me! Hehe, first time I have ever seen someone else with it )

Deleted2177411User
I have noticed this on my rig when I run the game with a lot of graphics/environment mods... are you running with mods? I have mods installed but only one of them is set to run with the game currently. "Atmospheric Weather System 2.10" is running but I didn't think it would take a huge amount of resources to run it. As stated earlier, I have the GotY version with all DLC and Shivering Isles installed yet this ran fine on the black drive. The odd man out on this one is the Weather Mod which wasn't at any point installed until the addition to my rig were put in place. I really hope that's not the case though because I really like the look now. That is correct. Can I raise the amount that it's using or does it already have so much extra left over? Hickory
Can I raise the amount that it's using or does it already have so much extra left over? It is already massively larger than Oblivion default. This is what TweakGuide says about that setting: iPreloadSizeLimit=26214400 - This setting appears to determine the maximum amount (in bytes) of RAM allowed for preloading game data. The higher the value, the more chance you have of reducing stuttering. The default value equates to around 25MB (divide the setting by 1024 to get KB, then by 1024 again to get MB). For those with 1GB of system RAM, try doubling the variable to 52428800. For those with 2GB, try double again at 104857600 (100MB). You can raise these values even further to experiment, however note that raising this to a large amount doesn't force all the game data to sit in RAM, and can actually cause crashes. I suggest the maximum anyone should set this to should be around 262144000 (250MB), even for 2GB of RAM. Make sure to raise your Cell Buffer values accordingly (see above).
