dthumb
http://www.blender.org/blenderorg/blender-foundation/press/re-branding-blender/ Blender is avoiding legal action and chose to spread it thru publicity. Some of the artwork being used to promote the mentioned software(s?) are not even with blender or 3D. If you know any of the artwork, let the artists know. dthumb
I posted it as well on the deviant art forums' Offsite Rip Report.
LHammonds
I used WOT to vote the site as being VERY POOR which will inform anyone using WOT that the sites are untrustworthy. Maybe we should find out what other community tools are available that we can use to flag the site as untrustworthy. It torques me off that they are ripping people off by using their images to mis-represent Blender.
TolarisOmega
Some of the images this troll has posted even say copyright Blender 2008 and Creative Commons 2.0. The two websites are virtually identical. Most definitely the same troll. Too bad Google and Yahoo don't have their own rating system integrated into their search engines. Would be very helpful. Any way to get the IP address black listed?
LHammonds
Well, if they were infected with a virus, google would KILL their ability for people to view the site. Remember what happened to Nexus when they flagged the site and even though the bad ad was gone in a very short time after being reported, it took days before they removed the filter. But that is neither here nor there. We need some tools similar to what WOT provides that can reach a lot more people.
baduk
Dear Friend, They start out with this, well i hope they dont expect to be making friends this way. Violating blenders GNU GPL, using stolen artwork to promote "their product". Yes they are also offering video and text tutorial materials. U want to guess where the tutorials are from? They deserve all kinds of bad stuff. I have also helped to spread the publicity of this, i feel a lot of gratitude for blender. dthumb
It looks like this has been going on since 2009... http://www.blendernation.com/2009/06/11/3dmagix-re-branding-and-selling-the-free-software-blender/#comment-487153 In summary, 3DMagix was taken down last year. A new site quickly appeared for 3DMagix Pro... flashy name, same crap. This is a how can you help quote from an article on BlenderNation by Bart. It's beyond me, but maybe webmasters and siteowners can explain this. The full article can be found here. Article Link---------------------------------------------------------------------------------How can YOU help? A grass-roots solution is to push 3DMagix and IllusionMage from the top search results in Google, and replace them with a link to the article on Blender.org. This should warn people who are about to buy this ‘product’. To do so, we’ll need as MANY well-formed incoming links on that page. Be sure to use the names 3DMagix and IllusionMage in the text part of the link. Here’s a piece of code that you can use on your own website: <a href="http://www.blender.org/blenderorg/blender-foundation/press/re-branding-blender/">3DMagix, 3DMagixPro, IllusionMage, scam</a>------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Oh and to the other people reading this, avoid googling/ entering the sites, software reviews, clicking ads of mentioned software. Just go to blender.org or click this Kat Bits Forum Article. Edited February 3, 2011 by d_thumb
LHammonds
For what it is worth, I added it to my sites News page. I made one additional change which might help search engines by adding an TITLE tag: <a href="http://www.blender.org/blenderorg/blender-foundation/press/re-branding-blender/" title="3DMagix, 3DMagixPro, IllusionMage, scam">3DMagix, 3DMagixPro, IllusionMage, scam</a>
