sullyvanj93
I was looking today for a mod that stops the auto reloading, to promote realism in my play-throughs. Don't worry, I found quite a few options there. But while I was reading the mods and even trying them out, I thought about how to make reloading even MORE realistic. Bear with me here as I explain: So you as the courier are pretty lucky with how easy it is to use the guns you find in the game. I mean, you auto reload when you're out of ammo... You never have bad rounds, even though a good majority are probably fabricated by someone less-than masterful in the art of reloading... And my personal favorite, you have an unlimited supply of magazines, that are always magically pre-loaded and ready for insertion. Well the other day a friend and I actually went out shooting (as we often like to do). It wasn't until after we had trekked out that I realized I had left behind the magazines for 1 of my guns. Since he hadn't gotten to shoot it yet, I ended up just loading a few bullets into the chamber one at a time, so he could at least get a feel for it. Another gun that I brought along, my dad's old .22, only had 2 mags that go with it. So after we exhausted those guys, we manually reloaded the magazines, until they were once again ready to fire. However, if I really wanted to, I could go out and purchase more online, and have more pre-made so when we were using the gun, more would be at the ready before we had to reload. I think the same could, in theory, work for fallout. And I think it would immensely add to the immersion of the game. In fact, all of the issues above could. Hopefully in one neat and tidy mod. First and foremost, disabling the auto reload feature, as others have successfully been able to do in the past. The only thing I haven't seen in the other mods that might be a nice feature is the slide locking back when you've fired your last round in automatic pistols, which would probably require a new mesh, but hey, I'm just listing all of my ideas here, no demands. Secondly, create a simple script that one in every 200 or so rounds (or it may reflect your repair skill) would fail, thereby rendering the round useless. When firing, you would get the same click as if you were out of ammo, in which case, you would have to hit a hotkey (not really important which one, especially if they have mod manager installed and can change it) to pull your slide/bolt/etc back to correct the issue. This could probably use the same animations as a low-conditioned gun reload. Thirdly, and my favorite part, is the implementation of magazines. My thinking is that one could change all ammo capacity of all effected guns to ONE (obviously wheel guns would still have their full cylinders). Maybe add an animation where you see the player reloading from the top of the gun, directly into the chamber, instead of the default reload. Then there would be magazines as items (the extended magazines would no longer be gun mods, but rather just rarer/more expensive versions of the other magazines). Now this is the tricky part, and honestly I don't know if it's entirely possible. But you have these magazines in which you can fill them with ammo (maybe equip them to do so, that way, there is an animation and it takes some time). Once it is full or partially full, it once again becomes an ammunition item, which will work with the associated gun. One of the mods that I was reading today was WarMachines brilliant Realistic Reloading in which he somehow made it to where when you reloaded, those magazines became partials (a misc item), and you would have to fill them up later if you wanted them to be full again. But he also made it so you could pop in a semi-full magazine in a pinch, or just to finish her off. Genius, and I think it would help if this mod used a similar tactic. Now obviously, most guns you find in the game come with a mag. It shows in their textures, meshes, etc that there is, in fact a magazine there. So I was thinking that when you pick a gun up or buy one, it would come with ONE magazine, which would be added to your inventory in addition to the gun (usually empty from a shop owner, or fully/partially full if found in the wasteland or on enemies).I'm not looking to make guns that you purchase useless without buying more items, but instead once you fire all the rounds in your magazine, you have to have another in your inventory in order to automatically slide another one into your gun. Maybe you only take 2 magazines with you to save weight on your hardcore playthrough, and once you use them up, you have to reload them. It would force you to think ahead before you end up in a gunfight that you may not have enough rounds prepared for. Or maybe you'd take along 20 magazines because you don't care about carry weight. You'd still have to take the time to reload them before you head out on your journey. IF that is possible to do AND there are enough people that have interest in a mod like this, I would definitely be willing to help however I can to whichever mod author thinks they have the ability to pull it off. Thanks for humoring my idea, and I hope there is some interest in this. I think it'd be a cool addition to the game.
Gusga
Check my idea, man:http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2961209-idea-for-receiver-like-mod/ I think both ideas would add value to gun sim in NV. Which mods for reloading did you test besides War Machine's? Edited June 18, 2015 by Gusga
