Topfree equality

Well this issue really bothers me, but I'm reluctant to say why because I did on another forum and I was quite viciously attacked. Everyone argued against me, came at me like a pack of wolves and just tore me to shreds (and ironically many of them were women and straight men. Hypocrisy at it's finest)...

 

But I will tell you the one thing relating to this issue that has happened in my life, that angers me the most. It's also the first thing that sparked my feelings about it this. When I was a girl of about 7 or 8, I was at my figure skating lessons. While practicing a jump I fell on the ice and my shirt came up, and my whole chest was bare for all to see for a couple of seconds. But I thought nothing of it, I just got up, pulled down my shirt and went back to what I was doing.

 

Later, however, my Dad totally. Flipped. His. ****. Got all PO'd and was accusing me of "exposing myself". I said, it was an accident, but besides, you go without a shirt all the time! His rebuttal? "Well, I don't have breasts!"

 

Let me remind you, I was only a wee girl at the time. I was still many years away from hitting puberty, and seriously? I had no trace whatsoever of these things called "breasts". My chest was as flat as my back. And besides, I was just a small child. How was I to know about this idiotic crap society has obviously brainwashed my father into believing? Well, not that it really means anything. My dad has always been a complete jerk and a total moron, especially when it comes to "female stuff". Hmph...

 

But he's far from the only one to think this way and that's what troubles me. All humans, regardless of gender, possess some amount mammary tissue. After all, that's why we're called mammals. So, technically, all humans (males included) have "breasts".

 

A lot of people argue, "Because if women walked around shirtless all us men would be getting aroused all the time!" a) I completely missed the part where that's my problem, b) it's not like every single woman who did it would be found "sexually arousing" by everyone else, and c) so what? Plenty of women get aroused by seeing shirtless men, but that's still legal.

 

I'm not saying it's necessarily something I would ever want to do myself. I only think it's wrong the way people get degraded and shot down over stupid imposed morals, and just the plain unfairness of it. It's an ugly thing and it degrades society as a whole.

 

It's also a very low and stupid thing to throw someone behind bars for...

I can see where you're coming from, but I would prefer if society did not accept shirtless men. Shirtless men on a beach, ok, shirtless men on the job or in a park, just no.

I agree, Lehcar. It should be acceptable for both sexes to go topless in the same sort of places--like the beach, one's own garden, and so on.

Hmmm shirtless women let me think ,cute girl who lives down the road ,standing beside my mother .Ok I'm torn on this one and may have issues as I included my mother in the scenario.

I agree on equal rights not only in this but I think this happens, because of a wrong socialisation of women in childhood. Like it was exampled in the 1st post.

 

I don't find it disturbing if a woman gives her baby her breast in public, because I find it natural. I would not mind on beach either for both sexes to have equal rights. But if more is shown then I would check for signs of a nudist beach and adapt to the situation (either leave or get equally dressed.).

Since I believe more in the freedom so I would be more for topelessness since I don't usually wear bras/bikini either on a beach.

( It would not look too well on me to wear a bra or a bikini as a male, but it would be at least funny and give anybody a laugh. So i hope only that nobody would mind that I would switch to a T-Shirt if we all are coved up ours.)

 

I therefor think it would be for me agreeable/supportable upon equalities on a beach or other places, because I think it is a rightful claim,

(be it either to have the breasts covert up or topples for both) as long as it's equal and everybody can choose what he / she wants to show or not.

Couldn't agree more. There are plenty of places where being shirtless might be appropriate; the beach, the swimming pool, your own house et.c.

I can do without sweaty men (and women for that matter) wearing nothing but swimming trunks and flip-flops handling food items in my local grocery store.

Covering up one's genitals and arse is a matter of hygene, and protects other people from sitting in whatever microorganisms are left behind after you've vacated a seat. Covering up one's chest is a matter of personal preference- it doesn't have anything to do with anything else. The only reason to enact laws against going topless- for men or women- is to enforce one specific, subjective code of conduct against everyone, regardless of whether they conform to its tenets or not.

 

So you might not like the way an 80-year old granny's breasts look... well, if you see someone's face that bothers you, that's just something you have to deal with in your own head and move on. So it should be with every part of human anatomy. You know it's there anyway... you can learn to ignore it. Or do you think that folks living in cultures with no nudity taboos enjoy the sight of every single body they see?

 

Bottom line, nobody has a right not to be offended. The only reason anti-toplessness laws exist is to keep people from being offended. It doesn't matter whether only a few people would be offended, or a whole bunch, or most... or even every single person besides the one who wants to take their shirt off. Subjective views should only be made into policy where it can be scientifically proven that not enforcing them would result in harm to the public... and thus far every attempt to prove that partial or even total nudity harms anyone has failed. The justification for these laws simply isn't there.

You have someone without a shirt in a movie and its rated R, you have someone getting shot in the face and threatening each other its rated PG-13.

 

 

I would like to know why people feel this way.

 

However I would like to point out that females breasts have a sexual and a non sexual function. There is a difference in between male and female breasts of course.

 

I think the real issue is if it really matters or not.

 

I don't think being shirtless matters since I don't think censorship is a good idea.

When I was young here in Denmark, in the hippie days, we all walked around naked. No problem. Us from that time still do in beaches, etc.

Here in DK we don´t turn our head when we see a man or a woman naked in the beach.

It is ok for a man to walk with no t-shirt in the city here, and a woman can walk in a bikini in the cities. Nobody notice.

If you absolutely want to, you can walk naked in the cities, it is not illegal, but expect some starring. :woot:

To dispell the "think of the precious children" line that usually crops up in these arguments:

Babies, in the majority of cases, are breastfed. If little Mckenna or Jayden asks you what boobs are, it's easy enough to tell them that those are where human milk comes from.

 

On a sidenote, I do see a reason for covering up big boobs. Avoiding black eyes and a sore chest of a long day of walking around unsupported, and of course, lack of support means drooping.
