Make Steam less intrusive

Hello

I never used Steam before, but with New Vegas I simply have to. Now I'm very annoyed by the constant pop-ups Steam is giving for every little crap I don't care about. Even stupid advertising pop-ups are now on my PC.

First thing I will do is delete the registry entry for startup.

Can you guys give me some tips for setting up Steam to be less 'there' and less intrusive?

Cheers

MG

Tip #1 is to realise Steam is the video games branch of Obama's plan to bring about a New World Order by amassing enough money to buy out the illuminati. To this end steam is everywhere and always looking to steal your money or subliminally advertise you things you don't actually want. Every time you get a built-in ad on a website? Steam. Popup? Steam. Spyware? Steam. Viruses? Steam. Spam Email? Steam. "Service charge" on your bank statement? Steam. Summoned to court for non-payment of taxes for fiscal years 2004-2009? Steam. Everything is obviously the direct fault of Steam. It's simple!

...or it could just be you have terrible antivirus/web browser choices and do not know you can turn off the steam overlay and stop hearing about real humans you know who are also gaming. Thus blaming everything you can on steam because you dislike it already and need a handy outlet for your feelings.

Ahh, yeah right. Very funny answers. I laughed a lot.

Also seems you two misunderstood the question completely. The advertising pop-ups are from the steam-app. And I'm happy that I don't share your twisted views Lt Albrecht. I just wanted to know how to disable to steam-related pop-ups. I really have no interest in your phobia-discussion.

I already figured out how to disable nearly all of them thanks to more serious answers in another forum. Thanks.

Touché, good sir. Touché indeed. I do it all as a public service. Hell, Obama isn't even my head of state.

The steam overlay for the game can be disabled, as can any alerts for game updates or friend status/current game changes and the "news" window it brings up on startup can also be disabled under options. Apart from that I can't think of any other windows it my have foisted upon you.
