MidbossVyers
After I "had fun" at Countess Caro's party, I returned to Sanguine's shrine (killing and looting 2 Leyawiin guards in the process). I talked with Sanguine, and he gave me his Rose staff. I got the quest update saying that I could get my stuff from the chest. Because I had looted the 2 guards before, my inventory was beginning to overflow, so I took some of my stuff, went down to local Skingrad, paid my murder fine, sold some of my loot, and returned to get the rest of my stuff from Sanguine's chest. I checked my active quests, but Sanguine's quest was still active with the message of "Sanguine was pleased with my efforts. He has given me the Sanguine Rose as a reward. I may retrieve my belongings in the nearby chest." I left the shrine, but the message was still there, so I had to use the completequest console command to get it off of my active quests list. Afterwards, I went to Bruma to do the Bruma Gate quest, but as soon as Burd finished talking with his soldiers, that quest automatically moved to the message of "Captain Burd thanked me for my help, and said that he and his guardsmen will do their best to close any new Oblivion Gates that open near Bruma. I should report my success to Jauffre.", even though I didn't enter the Gate yet. I had used console commands to get a Sigil Stone in the past, but that didn't affect my "Oblivion Gates Closed" amount, so I don't think it's related. What happened, and will this affect quests down the road? In other words, after completing the main quest, this Gate should close anyway, right? Hickory
It seems that you are experiencing symptoms of blythely using console commands (particularly with respect to quests) without regard to consequences down the road. The fact that Sanguine gave you the staff indicates that the quest should have completed. You really should have used the setstage command, not completquest command. The console is not there for gameplay, it was designed as a developer's tool. The Sanguine quest is one of many that is riddled with bugs, although most are addressed in the UOP.
