wolron
I have put this in "spoilers" because it talks about a specific quest. However, there is not much of a spoiler here. Has this ever happened to others??? I was doing the quest from the Fighter's Guild in Sadrith Mora where you are told to go to Telasero (spelling?) to escort a women by the name of Shimmerene through the dungeon. When I got there, she had left a note telling me that she was going in alone because it looked harmless. Of course, that meant that she was in trouble and I had to save her. I went in. I cleared all the dungeon except one room. I could not find her. Obviously she was in that last room, but I could not get in. Why not?? Well, when I clicked on the door it would not open. When I looked close at the door, I found a rat tail sticking out under the door and wiggling back and forth. The rat was blocking the door from opening inward. So what should I do. I tried smacking that rat's tail, but that did not work. Unlike some games, MW will not let you kill a beast that is on the other side of the door with a common weapon. Then I decided to try the scroll that I had collected in an earlier quest. The scroll was called something like "fiery roasting", but in any case it was advertised to do significant fire damage to anything within 100 feet. Very impressive. I tried it and it worked!!! The rat was fried. Unfortunately so was Miss Shimmerene. With the rat dead, I opened the door and found the poor lass as dead as a doornail. At first I assumed that she had been killed by the rats (I really had a hard time accepting the fact that I had done the dirty deed), but then I realized the 100 foot range had done her in along with the rat. I tried backing up and trying again (I was smart enough to save before trying that spell the first time). I couldn't back up far enough. Each time I tried the spell, it fried everything in sight (or out of sight in this case). I have not been a practitioner of magic, so I did not have lesser spells like fireball. After all, I am a Nord. Nords just smack people and things. But, I did have a mark amulet and a recall ring. I also had a divine whatever amulet. So I marked the spot, divined back to Fort Moonmoth, went to the Mages Guild in Balmora, bought a fireball spell from one of the mages, used the recall ring to go back to Telasero and used the moderate spell of fireball to kill the rat. It worked wonderfully and this time Miss Shimmerene was still alive to thank me and complete my quest. Is this a bug, or should I expect to need fireball spells to clear obstacles on the wrong side of doors? [This isn't the first time that I had this difficulty, so I expect I will experience it again.]

Switch
Er yeah. Cool... story. :P I would think this was spam but it's too long! So er, thanks for your contributon? ^_^ Hopefully this will serve as a valuable lesson to those trying this quest for the first time :P
Marxist ßastard
Yes... If something has too long of a range, then... er, well... get something that has a shorter range. Lesson learned.
DreamOfTheRood
Purists. Ack. If you ever run into this situation again, unclip yourself, walk through the door and clip yourself. It's not cheating if there's a bug in the game.
Malchik
Finding rats and other pesky creatures blocking doors is not limited to this quest. Not using console commands I found another way. Go away and rest for an hour (or do something else) and the damn things will have moved on the other side of the door and you can get in easily. Duskreaver
Typing RA in the console will put the rat in it's rightful place.
wolron
The console. Is there a source for finding out how to use it? I have generated an item under the careful direction of someone on this forum, so I know what you are talking about, but what is "unclip"? How do you do it? Also, what does "RA" do? Switch
TCL (ToggleCollision) turns off clipping, you can walk through walls and floors etc. Sadly so can the NPCs, so be careful of using it for too long cos it's a good way to loose vital NPCs. RA stands for Reset Actors, it basically resets all NPCs/creatures/etc to their original positions.
