Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul\Bain Install

Hi Everyone! I have successfully installed several mods with Bain Installer, even those that come with sub packages, yet I have not been successful with Oscuro's. I copy the 133 7z file into the install folder but I can't see the sub packages with the choices displayed. I have installed the OMOD version and it works perfect but I would love to do it with Bain. I read all the instruction from the Oscuro's readme, TesPositiveIV and even went to a site about installing with this great utility but I must say that I don't get it. Is there someone that has already installed this with Bain and give a little hand on this? I guess that if I learn how to install this mod then I will be able to do others. On the other hand, is it better to install with OMOD than with Bain for this one? Please help and thanks for whatever advice you can give me. Sincerely, hanker109

Is the archive in a BAIN friendly format? If not you'll need to repackage the archive yourself so it will be BAIN-ready. I do this with nearly all mods, even ones that are already BAIN-ready. Why, you might ask? Well it's just preference mostly and allows me to give more modularity to my installation. I can also spot any errors, if there are any, in the original packaging.

As for your question about which is better, BAIN or OMODs? BAIN is vastly superior to OMODs. Yes OMODs are easier for the most part, but that's about it. BAIN is really easy too, after you're familiar with it, and it's not hard to familiarize yourself with BAIN. At least no harder than it was to familiarize yourself with OBMM. A BAIN installation has so many advantages over any other type of installation it's beyond me why people still swear by OBMM. Anyway that's another topic and one that's been beat to death so I won't elaborate any further.

If you're interesting in learning more about Wrye Bash and BAIN I suggest you check out the Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide for Newbies. It covers many basic and even some of the more advanced functions of Wrye Bash, included how to package and use BAIN. It's an excellent guide and everyone should read through it at least once. I also strongly recommend you read through Pysmon's BAIN Mod Installation Projects. It's another excellent resource for assisting you in setting up and learning the intricacies of a BAIN installation. One last link, BAIN, An Understanding is a brief article describing some of the capabilities and advantages of BAIN. Once you get the hang of it you'll wonder how you ever got by with out Wrye Bash and BAIN, and never look back.

Good luck!

OOO does not come in a BAIN-ready archive. You will have to make your own. It is not difficult. There are step-sy-step instructions for how to create an OOO BAIN ready archive on Tomlong's site, TESIV:POSItive, which can be found HERE.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Hi Smoothie and Hemingwey! I really appreciate your help with Bain, I've been playing with it for some time now and I think I've been lucky because some mods are packed as 7z yet they install perfectly. Those Bain ready mods are a piece of cake but some are real hard. I downloaded all the instructions from the sites you mentioned and I'm sure I'm on the right track now. Thanks one more time. Sincerely, hanker109
