I just played Oblivion with every graphic setting to the highest possible setting with my new GeForce 8800 GTX 8) , and there was not the slightest bit of lag! Even the Geek Squad (the guys who put all that in my computer) were in awe of both my entire computer, and escpecialy my new graphic card! :D

I just had to brag about that. :)

Ok... so, tell me where I'm supposed to be jealous? Shouldn't people be jealous of people who can run Oblivion without any lag, like you and me?

Besides, I'm getting a 7.1 Surround Sound speaker system in a little while.

Was that a typo when you said "shouldn't"? Because if it wasn't you made it sound like I was talking only to you and that people should be jealous of people with no lag at top settings. But come on, when the a group like the Geek Squad is jealous, you have the right to brag.

And congrats on your new surrond sound.

Here's what I meant (I hope this sounds better)-

How does that sound?

Who cares about the 8800's? The R600 will slaughter that when it comes out. Also, just to make YOU feel better, your card will cost half as much in about 7 months, and in 1 year, will be HALF as fast as the fastest card.

Overall, I find Nvidia's drivers to be bug ridden, and it has been proven that Forceware drivers slow down the computer much more because they are more CPU driven, while ATI/AMD's drivers...Catalyst...are more efficient and require MUCH less CPU time.

So...unless you have a quad core CPU(Intel's Kentsfield), you're better off with ATI, anything less, and you're not getting all the juice you can out of the 8800 due to poor programming.

have fun knowing that in 2 months time a better card will be out that will likely be able to have maxed graphics, AND maxed INI tweaks as well, AND is capable of Antialiasing with HDR, while yours is NOT.

try bragging while you can...you have oh...wait. You can't brag...you dont have it in SLI. No bragging rights for you. Have fun.

I've been using the 8800 GTX since it was released. Prior to that, I had a 7950 GTX (dual VPU) that I used for all of maybe 2 months. I'm also a certified tech, although I no longer do that for a living.

At present, the 8800 is at the top of the heap, so far as gaming cards are concerned. However, ATI is no doubt going to respond by doing what they've been doing for the past year or so: release a new RADEON that blows the doors off of any nVidia card, so far as overall quality is concerned. Let's remember the X1900-XTX versus the 7900 GTX... the RADEON destroyed the 7900 -and- managed to edge out the 7950XT as well. This crap never ends... LOL

So, this hardware war will continue. The "best" card ends up coming down to which looks the prettiest to you on YOUR computer. Simple benchmark numbers mean ALMOST NOTHING, kids. There are too many variables involved in the way those benchmarks are calculated, not the least of which is WHAT computer were they using and WHAT game did they test it on. The only thing that truly matters is: which card LOOKS better to you..? Screw the numbers... we're supposed to be enjoying our games, not measuring each others' penises.

Anyway, I'm happy with the 8800 GTX, for now. It runs HOT, however. If you try using one in a cramped case, you'll fry it... unless you go the water-cooled route and can afford to dump 800 bucks on the WC'ed version of the card. In fact, most smaller cases won't even be able to fit the 8800 inside... it's very long and it needs lots of open space around it on all sides. So.. if you want one of these babies and you don;t own a full-tower case, then just add a new case to your 8800's shopping list.

One thing that Nvidia REALLY needs to add to it's drivers are those nice settings that ATI has in theirs, or at least did when I had my old Radeon 9800 Pro...upgraded to that lovely card from a geforce 2 mx220...that computer was a gateway, now I put together my own computers...cheaper, and get better quality components at the same time.

the feature? video card being able to reset without having to reboot the computer. It's such a nice feature that I took for granted then. Now if I ever get a BSOD(hasn't happened in about 8 months), I have to hold down the power button for the good old 4 seconds. I despise doing that since I know it's not good for the computer.

Anyways, you are right though...it all comes down to personal preference. I really wanted to get the X1800, but had to go with the 7800GTX due to time constraints. Now I'm pretty much on a dead end system already...Socket 939 motherboard(Asus A8N SLI Premium), medium power supply(OCZ Modstream 520W), etc. The only thing keeping me from putting together a whole new computer is the sheer cost of all the components...cooling solutions, new case(current is a full tower, but I want a more silent one...this one had aesthetics and cooling in mind, and so it's somewhat noiser than I'd like. Also have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+, but I think that this is both the first, and last time that I get a flagship CPU...they simply give too little extra performence for the money, relative to the performence you get when going from mid-range to flagship status in the video card realm, which is upwards of 25% or more(within the same generation of video cards)

I guess I'm just a fanATIc, and not an Nvidiot :P I'm also pro AMD, but that doesn't mean that I wont ever buy an Intel CPU again. If I had to buy a new cpu right now, it would be a conroe or kentsfield. We'll see how AMD's 4x4 is when it comes out...until then Intel definitely has a strong grip on the performence/gaming section. At least AMD is pricing their chips accordingly...very nice price cuts. Not good for them, but for the consumer...it is. What's really on my mind is how AMD and Intel will compare on the 64 bit lane...I know that AMD's version is coded much more efficiently, and that Intel's is more or less bastardized and doesn't get as nice a boost, but I guess the best way to tell would be to wait for programs coded with 64bit in mind on the engine level, then see how real world performence is.

-end rant
