MOAVGproductions
Hi everyone!I have been trying, and trying, and trying to look for a tutorial on how to create a new player start in the construction set(Oblivion's of course). In order to make this mod I am making, I need to create a new player start. I tried going lone wolf at it and tried to make it myself after seeing how Beth did it (seeing the X marker, and the player start title in the prison). After copying and pasting it in a cell where I want it to be I thought I finally did it. So after saving and closing out the set and booted up my game to click new game, I found out I was in the plain old prison. What did I do wrong?! Could someone give me a step by step tutorial on how to create a new player start? I would really, really, appreciate it! :)Thank you so much,
David Brasher
The easiest way to do this is to use the cell with the prison and mod it into something entirely new. Delete everything you don't want, add new stuff, and reposition the start marker. You can change the music in the prison cell to happy public music, change the name of the prison cell, and adjust lighting. If your mod has you start a new character somewhere besides the prison, then you most likely do not need the prison and can safely destroy it or alter it beyond recognition. MOAVGproductions
ok ok, I tihnk I understand what you're saying...I can delete it safely and adjust the xmarkers to what I want.ok I'll try that!
MOAVGproductions
ok, so I tried what you said to do, and replaced the cell and edited the way I wanted to do as a test. When I started up oblivion and clicked on New game, I was landed right back in the cell. And I did delete the cell, and xmarkers except the player start one... so, what am I doing wrong? David Brasher
It sounds like maybe your new mod is not checked in your mod manager, and so the game has reverted to vanilla Oblivion in this aspect and is using the vanilla Oblivion prison. This presupposes that you were successful in saving and were able to create a new mod, which presupposes that if you use Windows Vista/Windows 7 you have taken measures so that you can actually use mods and modding software and have them work. To clarify, you do not delete the prison cell, and especially do not delete the XMarkerHeading player start marker (one particular red rectangular box with a pink pyramidal nose thing with REF ID "CGPlayerE3Marker.") I suspect the funny body parts and textures under the floor are also important, but there is some evidence that they are not. It is safer to leave them alone. It is possible to somehow delete the player start marker and put it in another cell, but there is some trick to it and when I tested it, I could not make it work, so it is easiest to just change around the prison cell to the way you like it. MOAVGproductions
actually my mod is checked in, also it is (as of now) an .esp file [if that means anything]. I tried other sites' forum tutorials and still for some reason, it just won't work for me...I didn't delete the "cell"I deleted the "prison cell, and built over top of it.I also found this place:http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/PC_Starting_Locationand tried to edit the scripting (copy and pasting) for the alternative start, and still nothing is working; I'm back in the original prison cell.My efforts start to seem in vain after a bit lol...but for the mod I'm working on, I can build around that until I can get that "alternative" start when clicking new game in the main menu.Thank you for your help :)
David Brasher
Do you have a dirty mod in your load order? One that edits the prison cell and loads after your mod? That would make it so that the prison cell looked just like it does in vanilla Oblivion rather than your modded version. Do you have any mods that edit character generation? They could edit the prison cell and such and if they loaded after your mod, would keep your mod from working. Did you properly assign a new ref ID to your new X-marker heading before editing the script? (And would the CS allow you to save the script? If it wouldn't, that is a sure sign that everything is not set up right.) Can your software even make mods at all? There are problems that can cause people to be unable to make and use mods. Have you successfully made a mod in the past and actually seen its changes working in your game? Likewise, can you install and play other people's mods on your computer? For example: English language mods cannot be played on Spanish-speaking Oblivion. German language mods have tons of missing textures if played on English-speaking Oblivion. (In both cases, modder/translator people can fix the problems so the mods work right.) A more common problem is Windows Vista / Windows 7. If you have either of these operating systems, then you probably can't make mods unless you do certain things to get out around the problem. (Oblivion is a Windows XP Program.) ub3rman123
COuld've sworn there was an .ini edit you could do somewhere to change the beginning location, but that might take more skill to implement.
MOAVGproductions
I have made mods in the past, and I can use mods. But somehow for somereason mods aren't working now... >.>but when I did try to sace the script the first time, it didn't work and it crashed the game. I tried the second time and it crashed again, and the third time... it crashed again. I thought long and hard as to what the problem may be, and then this thought came up, "I deleted the soldiers and Uriel Septim; which made it not to work." So I started that cell all over again and this time I did not delete the npcs and I used the script; which made it to work... but as you can tell, I am still not getting any results :TI put in the right script and still nothing...Also, I am using Oblivion (english of course), Shivering Isles, and Knights of the nine retail pack.I don't know what is going on... :TOn a side note... I did go in to the TESCS and tried to create a "test" mod in the ImperialDungeon01, by adding a deadric longsword in the prison cell where the character starts. I then saved the mod and started up Oblivion; went to data, and selected my test mod. I was at thte main menu and then started a new game and BAM! MY deadric sword was not there. So I hope that helps you in figuring out what in Sam Houstons Glorious name is going on here! :)Thank you all so very much for taking your time here.
