I don't want to be archmage

So I finished the Winterhold questline yesterday and I'm pretty disappointed. It was great up until the end and (besides being waaaaaaay too short), I just think...that becoming the archmage...is stupid? Depending on how you all play the game and what you imagine your character to be, I mean I can see a scenario where it would be ok but like even then it just makes no sense to me.

You've been a student there for what, a few days , or maybe an in-game month or two? You do one thing right and bam suddenly you're the new principal? My character is young and it just DOESN'T make sense to me at all. I think it's stupid and like what if your guy isn't even a mage? (I know what you're thinking: "Why go to the college in the firstplacew?" well idk maybe they wanted to complete the quest for some reason) like what if I'm a strictly melee class and now suddenly I'm supposedly the top dawg at a school for magi? Why?

Idk, I love the college and it was my favourite ques up until the end. I don't want to run no goddamn school. It's too bad they didn't go in a different direction with that questline.

Thoughts?

It's the same problem wherever you go in Skyrim. People are easily impressed it would seem and always willing to let you jump from entry level to CEO.

To be absolutely fair, you need to know a minimum of one spell to complete the questline. (Lesser Ward.) This is assuming you have high enough Speech to skip the first test at the bridge, and use for example frost and fire shouts to make it through Labyrinthian.

It's still kinda dumb that you can be made Archmage knowing only a single novice level spell, though. Especially since you mainly get the job because the Psijics said so, and everybody else is like: "Seems legit!"

Anyway, at least most of my characters tend to be master enchanters, so I can argue that I'm great at one type of magic.

Really, this should have been an option in the vanilla game. Tolfdir is, like, the Dumbledore or Skyrim.

The Immersive College of Winterhold mod also has an option to let Tolfdir become Archmage

Dang, I guess I should delete that Tolfdir mod I merged with Immersive College of Winterhold.

RTFM

It's been like that since Oblivion. In Morrowind, there were required stats/skills to join any of the guilds. Some were mutually exclusive. In oblivion though, you could be the master of EVERY guild......
