Ferryt
Eh ... I don't play Oblivion either for the nudity or the blood and gore. Yes, I use body replacers, and yes, I use the nude models/textures, but that's all part of the "immersion" I'm trying to achieve. I haven't modded my game in any way to increase the gore element. I see videos of PCs beheading NPCs, and I really get nothing out of that, especially since it seems to happen on every strike (Deadly Reflexes? I'm not sure.) I don't see that stuff as at all "realistic". On the other hand, the nude models I use don't have gignormous bouncy naughty bits, either. That's why I use Robert's male and female body replacers and not HGEC or one of those other mods that feature women with tent-sized requirements for bra cups. The flip side of this is that I'd like to see games like Oblivion accessible to younger folks. There's nothing that I can see with vanilla Oblivion that is out of line with a "T" rating. Just about every popular game that's available has adult mods for it and kids are going to get hold of them regardless of what organizations like the ESRB attempt to do, and they'll acquire "M" rated games, too, if not semi-legitimately by having an older friend buy them, then by piracy off the Internet. Funny, that. The ESRB will assign an "M" or "A" rating to game and what happens? You can bet that teens will be flocking to get that one and their system of covert enforcement of their policies is actually encouraging software piracy. You aren't going to keep this stuff away from children who are Internet/computer savvy, so why even try? In my estimation, the ESRB is an empty glass with a hole in the bottom. It serves no real useful purpose and i's only clout is its ability to direct media attention toward manufacturers that don't obey its "voluntary" rating system and the fact that they have the game-sellers under their thumb. Most stores won't even sell a game that hasn't been rated. Anyway, I've my say on this and I'll get off my soapbox and let this thread get back to the main issue. majikmonkee
The Dremora's options didn't make me think of sexual favors, but that's just because "service" isn't a term that gets batted around a lot where I live in reference to sex (although there are plenty of other terms with multiples meanings that bring it to mind for me). Depends on my state of mind really, I always assume the dialogue in Oblivion is non-sexual, it tends to surprise me when it's actually meant to be on rare occasion. Ayatolah
I agree with majikmonkee, where i live is very rare to use the term "service" for that kind of things (with the exception of the "professional sector", you know what i mean), not to mention that, thinking about the dremoras er... society (remember, all of them are some kind of daedra knights) i expected some kind of "mission". Not to mention that my character is male...
Megatarius
I always thought of the Dremora as a race of humans that were confined to other realms. (Or humans are a race there were confined to the mundane world...) (I don't really pay attention to lore. This game doesn't have much that hasn't been done a million times already anyway.) chaospearl
I'm actually always surprised when a sexual reference pops up in Oblivion because even though I know it's rated M, I'm just not used to playing games that are 99% PG-13 with only a few explicit bits thrown in. It's far more common for games with explicit content to be all about that content, aka Leisure Suit Larry, and so the sex is everywhere you look and you expect it. Whereas Oblivion I'm playing along and suddenly I hear a vanilla NPC talking about Mirabelle Monet and sailors leaving her inn very satisfied, and I blink a few times and think I couldn't possibly have heard what I think I heard. For the same reason I'm surprised when I hear swear words. There's a Nord in the Fighters Guild somewhere who has dialogue about coming south because he didn't want to "freeze his ass off" or something like that. He very definitely uses that word, and it's from the vanilla game, no modding. I have absolutely no problem with it, but it still surprises me every time I hear it because it's just so unexpected coming from this particular game. runforitkyle
If ESRB was in full control you would be blind folded and locked in a room filled with cotton balls. Life is so much more violent and sexual than any video game. I consider their ratings silly, the ratings should be there as a guide not as a law. MarkInMKUK
I guess it may depend on your circumstances, but in my opinion, "99% PG-13 with only a few explicit bits thrown in" is pretty much what I'd expect from real life. Granted, I'm not a great drinker so I seldom bother with a pub, but how much of YOUR 24 hours do you spend being explicit in public? Now, a mod which added a lot of very explicit PRIVATE lives would be fun, especially for a character like mine (specialist sneak thief). What DOES that Dunmer alchemist with a penchant for necromancy get up to at night...?
