DestinySeraphim
Okay. A month ago, I used to have an ASUS-based NVIDIA card, and I bought a new card. Guess what it was. The ATI HD Radeon 5450 PCI-E. However, before that, I could only really play The Sims 2 and the Sims 3 on that card, and this is on a new computer. A brand new computer I have only had since January. Yeah, installed the drivers for the ATI card, and started playing Minecraft which I had on my computer but couldn't run it on the NVIDIA card, neither for Oblivion. Now I could run Oblivion on the computer, but couldn't run HDR without the NVIDIA-esque Black Screen Bug for some reason, so I resorted to Bloom. However, the next time I turned on my computer, Minecraft started having a Crash After Login Bug, everytime. I would have to uninstall my drivers (which at the time were the 10.12) and reinstall them just to play Minecraft. Soon I bought Fallout 3, same big problem, and fixed it temporarily with the same fix, finally getting past the opening videos only for it to crash after clicking New Game. I soon discovered the next morning that maybe NVIDIA didn't uninstall all its files, so I downloaded Driver Sweeper, uninstalled the ATI Drivers, and did a Driver Sweep for both ATI and NVIDIA files. Got rid of the NVIDIA files sure, and then I reinstalled the ATI drivers. Minecraft and Fallout 3 worked like a charm that day. Then the next day, after I turned my computer back on, I was back at square one. Fallout 3 would crash at loading of a saved game and new game. Minecraft would crash on Login and finally I got around to playing Oblivion, only problem is that it sets my settings to Medium instead of High for Fallout 3, and when I try changing Texture Size settings for Oblivion and go to restart the game, it crashes on exit, preventing me from saving the changes. A little help here? I am sick and tired of having to reinstall the ATI Drivers all the damned time just so I can play my favourite games. The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 aren't affected by this issue for some reason but it is starting to tick me off. I didn't have issues with Oblivion or Minecraft on my old computer, so why on this new one. Here is a DXDiag print out------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 2/13/2011, 12:10:28 Machine name: STEPHEN-PC Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.101014-0432) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: BIOS Date: 11/23/09 16:50:29 Ver: 08.00.15 Processor: Intel® Core i5 CPU 661 @ 3.33GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz Memory: 3062MB RAM Page File: 2097MB used, 4239MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 7.00.6002.18107 32bit Unicode ------------DxDiag Notes------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. I don't know why I have such an issue after uninstalling the NVIDIA stuff... thing is... I couldn't get Minecraft to work on the NVIDIA card due to the black screen bug I would get with it. So why am I having issues with games I can support on this ATI card?

Erik005
I think the problem is the the 5450 is not powerful enough to play oblivion or fallout 3 on your resolution. Your games seem to crash when the card has to d something and it just can't handle it. If you want to play any games get a better card.
bben46
Many new computers are intended more for office type applications rather than games. Before installing an expensive new video board, make sure the power supply can supply enough power for it. Many off the shelf big name computers have cheap power supplies that can barely power what came in them, let alone a more powerful graphics card. Go here to see if your computer can run the game (this does not check the power supply)http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ You will find the various game we support Oblivion listed as 'The Elder Scrolls IV, OblivionFallout3 as Fallout3 PC Dragon Age listed as Dragon age Fallout New Vegas as Fallout: New VegasMorrowind is not listed, However if you can run Oblivion at all it should run well on your system. Erik005
These are not driver issues, the card is just not powerful enough.
Nobody09
Could be an OS issue? Try playing with the compatibility settingsI'll try that, thank you. Hope it works.EDIT: Well for Minecraft it didn't do anything, gonna try Oblivion and Fallout 3 now. o 3o; 5450 is powerful enough in some ways. That gpu doesn't have the 6 series uncore architecture. Which means basically all the shaders run at very low clock speed. He's just going to have to turn off hdr as that uses tons of shaders. If he doesn't want to turn off hdr he'll have to compenstate by turning lighting effects off or down. He should turn grass off for sure. And then simply turn down the draw distance till he gets 25 frames per secong under most circumstances. But he's going to have to do something first. Download the 11.1 drivers, try them. If they don't work try the 10.8 drivers. If that doesn't work try the 10.2. But mostly you are going to have to overclock it. You can get by with a nice 850 core and 900ish memory clock. And you are going to have to limit resolution. I like playing with small cards but if you got a 2560x1080 monitor you aren't going to make it. If your monitor does well with a lower resolution try that. I don't like playing windowed but you can have fun with small cards just by letting your screen set up a black bar on the sides to keep aspect ratio and setting games to full screen at 1366x768 or 1440x900. My monitor is native 1600x900 but you cut the work load on gpu by 11 percent just by setting 1440x900 and by 37 percent by setting 1366x768. But most importantly is overclocking. 750mhz shaders are just toooo slow for modern games and 850 is much more workable. Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz)Too much monitor for that card. Need at least a 5550 or 4650 or GT 220 for that. At LEAST.Setting game and monitor to full screen on black stripes at 1440x900 mode would drop gpu workload 27 percent.Display Memory: 2289 MBDedicated Memory: 1015 MBShared Memory: 1274 MBPlus your I5 seems to have it's gpu enabled and wanting to set up some kind of monsterous frame buffer in your system ram. Illiad86
An ATi card having driver issues? THAT'S UNHEARD OF. seriously man...have you ever USED an ATI card? Haven't had an issue with the drivers ONCE in the year I've had this card....and I update my drivers as they come out. But, from what others have said, the card is too weak. A 5450 is meant for an HTPC, it can play HD video and that's about it. Most people get those lower end cards for their HTPCs because they are cheap and handle HD better than the onboard video. Oblivion and Fallout 3, despite their age, are still killers....just as much CPU as GPU. Edited February 14, 2011 by Illiad86
DestinySeraphim
Technically I run my non-game resolution at 1680 x1050. Most of the time I run Oblivion and Fallout 3 at 1280 x something. Minecraft doesn't have any problems with it. Minecraft isn't having any issues any more, better test Oblivion and Fallout 3 this afternoon. And I plan to get at least an ATI Radeon HD 5850 soon as soon as I can afford it. And this wasn't a built by another person computer, this was built from individual parts by the way. o 3o;
