mikeloeven
i dont mind a delay in downloadsi dont mind flash adds. and i would not even mind video adds that play in the background i belive the new unskippable video adds cross a serious line in terms what a site should be allowed to put it;s users through. the premium subscibers already get faster speeds and less adds as a perk. the new system forces users to subscribe just to download files with any degree of efficiancy. please sign this pettition to compel the site designer to remove the unskippable video adds and return the website to it's origional functioning and normal flash advertisments. once i recieve enough signatures i will email this to the website developer. but the basis of this petition is remove the 30 second add requirement. most people dont mind video adds but they should pop up in a seperate window and should under no circumstaces interfere with downloading of files. alonsomartinez
Do you know how expensive it is to run these sites ? There are approximately 2000 new registers every single day , and there are 2 million registered users. This is one of the largest Bethesda gaming sites. If it weren't for those ads , there wouldn't be a Nexus anymore and you wouldn't be able to download mods. Would you imagine if you had to pay for these sites out of your own pocket ? Face it , ads and premium members keep these sites running. The Nexus isn't forcing you to buy premiumship. The new video ads also aren't even that annoying. They are usually 45 seconds long. If you dont want to hear it , then mute it and go get a glass of water while the video plays or go to Youtube and watch a Kitten video. Today I downloaded a mod ,and saw a preview for an upcoming game that I rather liked. Now thanks to those ads , I will probably buy the game once it is released. mikeloeven
i don't mind adds and i don't care if i get 20 pop up windows the new un skipable 45 second flash video is the problem. the site gets paid for every add that gets shown forcing a person to watch a 45 second add for each file is wrong. most sites that implement these adds will have a cool down period that only shows you one add every hour or so. say i want to download a decent number of mods you can see how the timers add up. the flash advertisements that have always been on the download page were sufficient. this is not morally acceptable and you have no right to defend poorly implemented advertising that interferes with the sited basic functions i could under stand your post if i was saying to abolish advertising altogether. but all i am asking is for the flash video to pop up in a second window and not interfere with downloading. the add still gets played and the site still gets their 2 cents and everyone is happy besides i am giving the site the option to change their policy the formatting of the download server is rather simple and figuring out the download link manually is fairly easy if you know what the file extension is so if i get pissed off enough i can easily skip the adds altogether just by guessing the DDL but opening the adds in a second window implementing a global cool down so that users downloading multiple files do not have to watch the same thing over and over againreverting to normal flash ads on the mirror page but making the add space larger and using more than one basic flash add there are a number of ways to make the site more efficient and still keep the advertising partners happy. my only issue is the fact that a 10 second delay has turned into a 45 second delay with no chance of paroll, there are better and more efficient advertising methods that do not interfere with downloading Edited February 15, 2011 by mikeloeven
Pushkatu
What's done it's done. I don't think this petition would change things. No one is forcing us to use the site or to become premium. I can still download files just like before. I haven't seen any videos yet(with sound), but I haven't downloaded much recently. I have nothing against your petition, I just mentioned my opinion. Cheers,Pushkatu!
Eiries
The site is now using video ads because enough people complained about popups. Complain about video ads enough and maybe you'll get something even more creative, for better or for worst. This place gets more and more traffic, and with Skyrim and a New Vegas expansion on the way, it's not gonna slow down any time soon. This extra traffic means Dark0ne needs more money to keep this place going. If you want to get rid of the ads, donate to the site and get a premium membership. If that's too much, then you'll have to deal with them, because without these ads this place will go under.
Skevitj
I'm with alonso. The bill to keep a forum of this magnitude running is enormous, as is I'm surprised by how few adds there are. The adds are far from unbearable ** SNIP ** If it comes down to having to double the adds on the nexus sites or stopping its growth: I'm all for the increase in adds. EDIT: I know I'm speaking in general, but I've never even seen the video on any of the files I've downloaded in the last few days. EDIT by LHammonds: Please don't suggestion or instruct people on how to circumvent the ads. If everyone did, this site couldn't pay the bills and I'll leave it to your imagination as to what that would mean. Herculine
Here we go with this again... This is the biggest and most popular Bethesda mods site on the www and it remains in successful existence due in large part to the fact that it generates enough revenue from both ads and member support for the owner to keep it running. Complaints about the ads is quite the recurring theme around here of late, but the truth of the matter is that it really doesn't cost one that much to become a premium member now and again if the ads bother one so much. I don't even have a job and I manage it from time to time. Why? Because I love these games and mods and thus want to see the site continue to succeed. Furthermore, judging by the activity points and number of posts statistics of the OP proposing this petition, I'd suspect that the ads really aren't taking up that much of your life, now are they? DrakenGuard
I dont have much of a problem with the vids alothough I wish they where not there. MY main concern is since I have limited broadband each month (15GB) downloading a video that is about 20 Mbs that I have no intention to view but downloads it regardless takes the cake. Im split descitions here so Im unsure what to think come to think of it. ** SNIP ** EDIT by LHammonds: Please don't suggestion or instruct people on how to circumvent the ads. Fatalmasterpiece
no o ne is reading my post double triple quadruple the ads i don't care if they don't interfere with the site. invasive advertising is my problem so please read and make educated statements.... Here's an educated post, even one that is spelled correctly and uses grammar (see: educated). First, the videos average 15 seconds, not 45. Your exaggerations only serve to exacerbate frustrations on the issue. Secondly, pop ups as you suggest were already used and met with many complaints. Having experienced both formats, most of the regular users here seems to favor the videos, since at least those don't have issues with taking over one's browser. While your welcome to voice your opinions of course, you will likely find little support for your point of view.
