DarkeWolf
Hiyas Maxwell :)Welcome to the nexus forums, and I gotta say that its always a good thing to see new modders coming into the scene  There's two ways that you can increase the amount of base damage that a weapon does. Base damage is originally calculated by the actual weapon type, such as say, sword (which is a preset amount, and can't be changed without changing ALL swords in the game) ... and the material that it is made up of.So if you want to increase the amount of damage that it does, just by itself, you make the weapon out of a higher tier weapon material. The toolset itself only goes up to Tier 7, which is dragonbone. Anything above that, would need to be a custom made material created in the toolset. Now, a bug with that, is that if it's a custom made material, when looking at the item IN GAME, it will display the material like this- () Instead of the material name. Another option is to go to the line for Item Properties, and click in the drop box. Find Increase Damage and click on it to highlight it, and then click the ADD button. Once you've added it to the list of properties, you go to the end line, and type in a power value. If you type in say..... 20. 20 will be the amount of additional damage that it does. (Tho keep in mind that armor will still soak some of that, depending on the armor value of your victim.By this same token, there is a property for decrease damage that you can use as well. The power value that you use will determine how much LESS damage the weapon does. Increase armor penetration is also a value that you can set in Item Properties. I believe that the value of that is increased 1=.2% so say that if you set the power value for 5, you'd have .10% armor penetration.I could be wrong on the value % ratio, I'm not at home at the moment, and am quoting that from memory. As for the defense rating of an item.... can't be done. Defense is a rating that is equated from the CHARACTERS attributes. If you are talking about the Armor value, then that can also be increased by advancing the material tier. Or by adding the item properties such as Increase ArmorDefense is how well the character can block incoming attacks. There is a value for that as well in Item Properties. There's a tute for making Custom Materials on this site- http://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset/index.php/Tutorialsdown towards the very bottom of the page. I give you the entry page, because there may be a tute on there that will help you later on with later endeavors. ;) Hope that this helps, and good luck!-DW
DarkeWolf
Oh! and I might add, that the higher tier material that it's made of, the more of an attribute requirement will be required to be able to use the item. For instance, I believe that dragonbone requires a 42 strength to wear for a dragonbone chest piece.IF you dont want to have that requirement there, when you are in that Item Properties list, go slightly lower on the screen for a button that I Think says "properties" and click on it. Choose something about "Special" In that list will have a list of restrictions. Like only the player can use it, only alistair can use it, only templars can use it, etc. In that list is something to the effect of no attribute requirements .adding that to the item properties will negate the effect of needing to have a certain level of strength, dexterity, magic or what have you, in order to be able to use the item. Again, sorry for being slightly vague, but I dont have the TS or DA installed on this computer, its on the one at home. Again, good luck! And happy modding! :)-DW

DarkeWolf
Heyas Maxwell :) Hahahaha very cool :) And Yes, Phaenen has done some absolutely fantastic work with the Forge. Its one of those mods that I don't want to play the game without it :D Ok, I've got a couple of mods that use starmetal as well. One of them being Ghost's GW Runic armor. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=647 After installing his mods into my machine, I can now select HIS version of starmetal, as a weapon material. Under MaterialType I can scroll thru that list and find Weapon, Starmetal(10000) or similar.... in the list. I can then chose that to be the material that the weapon will be made of.Now, you can also create your own version of starmetal, or another named metal, for your stuff to be made of. http://social.bioware.com/203442/blog/1352/I personally have not done that yet tho, so I'm afraid that I can't offer any help with it other than give you the tutorial :( IF you were to use like say... Ghost's starmetal, and actually release mods that included his work, you would need permission from him to do so, before releasing it.And if you didnt include his actual files, but did make it dependant on his starmetal, you'd have to list his mod as a dependency or your mod won't work right without his. You'd still need his permission to use his work for dependancy. As well as give him credit for the work involving the material. Not a problem at all, I hope that this helps. And thanks Very much for the compliment and support :D  -DW Edited February 16, 2011 by DarkeWolf

DarkeWolf
Yup! Custom metals! One of the really cool things about THAT, is that if you start to learn about hues and tints (which I hate to say, I haven't yet :( ) it opens up the possibilities of changing the colors to some of the items, without having to do completely new textures. But, thats getting ahead of ourselves, but something that you might want to check into once you've started getting the hang of things ;) The GW Runic is an awesome looking suit. Ghost did a phenomenal job of artwork on it. Tho I do have to say that sometimes I end up resetting the bonuses on it, in the winter forge. You are very, very welcome. :) And thanks for letting me get to see somebody getting excited about getting into modding. That gives me a smile :) Good luck, and if you need any other help, feel free to ask! Granted, some of the more advanced stuff... well.... But starting out, we'll help you out as much as we can ;) -DW

For example something like add a "+999 Magic" attribute to one of the Apprentice Robes in my items? Edited February 16, 2011 by est
