Internet Radio?

I am wondering what you all think of Internet Radio stations and what are your good/bad experiences with it. If you're not a genre junkie you may want to stop reading here.

I started up with Pandora Radio and made a Gothic Rock radio station (yes none of you probably know what I will be talking about here on in). I added The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Fields of the Nephilim and some others... all was good. Then it started playing some older post-punk and wave stuff like Joy Division and Depeche Mode. I don't mind this music and know it had a big influence on the later Post-Punk and Goth scene... but then... Well then it started playing only 80s New Wave. First a Flock of Seagulls, then Naked Eyes and then Duran Duran. Don't get me wrong, I like this music but it's in the wrong station.

Pandora Radio just doesn't seem like it can get it right... As if it doesn't understand what a genre is and just wants you to create a huge station with all the different kinds of music you like. Well, I like all sorts of stuff from Industrial to underground Death and Black Metal... it doesn't really make sense to go from listening to The Cure then to Amon Amarth in the same 10 minutes. I wish it could understand this. Now that I've thumbsdowned a bunch of songs I actually do like, it only plays the same 6 bands one after another.

Last FM seems to have similar problems but differently in that it didn't even know what I was talking about. I started a Gothic Rock station and put in the same bands. Instantly it starts playing Lacuna Coil. Again, another band I don't mind but it isn't Goff and certainly isn't in the same genre as The Mission...

So far, not impressed with internet radio. Those that seem to be are my friends who listen to just about everything and don't have very refined tastes...

I tried listening to the genre themed stations but they play the same thing over and over again...

So I always have one of my systems playing internet radio...

but its always on one of my favorite stations in this area

97.7 HTZ FM Rock station out of St Catherines

Y108 (actually 107.9 on the dial) Rock station out of Hamilton

Q107 Classic rock station out of Toronto

89.5 Late at night/real early morning they play some kick ass deep bass/jungle/trance stuff..

News Talk 1010 Talk radio out of Toronto, this station has been my favorite for some time now as they keep up with the most inportant news and information that is happening.

www.di.fm/chiptunes. I love chiptunes  But that's just me.

Internet radio is good, being able to listen to stuff other people are making you and loads of other people listen to without being confined to official radio stations (FM, AM, MW, etc). And you can pause them whenever you like.

But some bad things are that it lags sometimes and nothing happens for a few seconds and when you start playing it, it often goes onto the next song when you haven't listen to all of the first one (the downside of pausing whenever you like).
