“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” ~ Albert Einstein. I was thinking after a global nuclear exchange the world would be much more devastated, maybe even bombed back to the stone age. So has a mod been made that turns the Mojave wasteland into a frozen wasteland filled with primitive tribals fighting for the few remaining resources left in the barren wasteland.? Maybe Fiends could be renamed with tribal names and given tribal clothes and gear.? I know a nuclear winter mod exists for New Vegas that would be perfect for a mod like this or maybe not, I'm not sure if a mod like this already exists.

If the world was bombed enough to make this part of the country become frozen, I can guarantee there would be no one left living to fight with sticks and stones... It is about 115 degrees here...

Maybe Fallout 3, but sounds ridiculous for New Vegas.

Globally there are now approximately 17,300 nuclear warheads.
(Upated as of early 2013)

Russia 8,500
United States 7,700
France 300
China 250
United Kingdom 225
Israel 80
Pakistan 100-120
India 90-110
North Korea <10

Estimated Total: 17,300

That is allot of nukes and the great war happens in 2077 so no telling how many nukes existed then so more than enough to throw the entire planet into a centuries long ice age. I honestly don't find it an impossibility for the great war to cause an global nuclear winter and bombing most communities into a stone age.

I agree, but everyone would be dead.

From the wiki re: Nuclear Winter;

"Whereas a a much larger number of firestorms[quantify], which are assumed to be the result of any city-targeted, US-Russia total war, is modeled to cause a much deeper nuclear winter, with catastrophic summer cooling by about 20 °C in core agricultural regions of the US, Europe and China, and by as much as 35 °C in Russia"

This isn't something that happens overnight, it's a reverse of the greenhouse effect. I don't know what the models predict but it could take a 100 years to reach the full effect. It is a global climate change, and as such can imply new norms for locals across the globe.

Long story short, you can have survivors of the bombardment and through the decades the temperatures would begin and continue to drop.

It's an interesting idea, although you might be able to pull off the same thing by just focusing on everything near the arctic circle (if you didn't want to rewrite global history). Depending on how much colder it is you could creep south of the 66 to encompass parts of Canada, Alaska, Siberia (probably an ice bridge) etc.

Nuclear winter is a steaming pile of crap. Nukes don't kick up enough dust high enough to cause it. Moreover, you'd have to kick up A LOT in order to have any effect. Witness the 1815 explosion of Mount Tambora:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1815_eruption_of_Mount_Tambora

TL;DR version:

One really bad summer, cold decade, no effect past the the something like the 40th parallel, Africa didn't notice it. Nuclear war, even with all the nukes going off, you're going to get a bunch of brush fires and that's it. Climatic effects would be gone by 2090 at the latest. Fallout goes to safe levels in 14 days. Nukes are gloried artillery, nothing more. All you can really do is nuke a country back into Somalia, and probably not even that.

I havn't studied the subject in depth myself, however when dealing with complicated subjects I tend to rely on teh advice of experts. In this case that is the climatologists. This isn't an appeal to authority (a logical fallacy) but rather acknowledging the knowledge of experts in their fields.

If my conversions are correct, 20 degrees Celsius wouldn't be enough to make Nevada and Arizona anything like winter... It would still be 24 to 26 degrees Celsius in the summer, which is nice a warm. Even at a drop of 35 you aren't getting below freezing except for 2 months out of the year.

I'm not debating the validity of nuclear winter, I am just saying that Nevada and Arizona would still be temperate even after a nuclear winter.

Enough bombs to make THAT incredible amount of climate change, well over 70 degrees f, would easily kill every last creature on earth except maybe worms and other invertebrates.

Yep, but that's for the US/Russia of the 20th/21st century (don't know when the latest estimate is/was) and we are talking Fallout in 2077 with what is most definitely a far greater aresenal of nuclear weapons that is unequivocally (according to lore) used throughout the globe. I don't think it's a impossible scenario to consider if one was devoted to the idea of such a campaign.
