chjoco15
ya the game does make me mad sometimes. when i had to close the great gate this thing got in the way of the beam and it stopped there so i had to make a new game because i couldnt get out of oblivion. it could be the wrong gate that you closed, unless you followed the quest marker. Guest Tessera
There's often more than one Oblivion Gate in the vicinity of a given city. You need to close them ALL, if they're ANYWHERE nearby.

Stampede
Sometimes it's hard to tell. Not all nearby gates can be seen from Skingrad, due to its location. Some also may seem far away, but are near enough so that the count deems them a threat. Frustrating I'm sure. Remember though, SPOILER: you actually don't need to complete this quest to finish the game, it just means you will have less help at the Battle for Bruma. END SPOILER
