evilneko
Hmm.. you might pull it off with that power supply, you'd definitely have to stick to low-end cards though. Given your budget though that's kind of a given. I still think though, that maybe you should just grin and bear it, and put all the money toward a better system later. I mean, you said next year you plan to spend about a grand, so this system would only be your primary for ~9 months. As a penny pincher myself...that return on investment doesn't look that great to me. If you already bought the mobo/cpu/ram though, I'd be very tempted just to try it and see what happens with the onboard video. Hey, at least it's not a crappy Intel. CommodoreBlitz
well, I could save $20 and get the same system except the cpu would be a amd athlon x2 5000, not sure the difference between the Athlon II x2 and this cpu (tho I am sure its slower) but it would give me an extra $20 to go towards a Video card. tho the ram would now be ddr2 instead of ddr3 on the mb that uses the x2 5000 cpu. This would give me at lest $50 towards a V card then. tho it would also add $9 to the cost of the ram as its ddr2 so that would leave $41 for a video card. CommodoreBlitz
One thing I noticed about the A II x2 mb, its a AM3 mb which means I could next year upgrade it to a Quad cpu which would save me some money next year if I went that way.... CommodoreBlitz
well, still tinkering but this is my current system. I started with a P4 2.ghz with 2gigs ram and a x1550 ati video card windows xp Pro which in 3dbendmark 06 game me a score of 409 with everything set to max and res at 1600x 1200 With that system I had to set Fallout 3 (or nv) to 800x600 (or in the case of NV I used the mod manager to force the graphics to below 600x for good frame rate)with a mixture of low and med settings. I now have a Amd Athlon x2 250 3.ghz with 3 gbs of ram, And I had a Nvidia geforece 7900 gs card (but it kinda ran hot and was better but not great) I now have a Sapphire 4850 512meg card which with no load on it runs at a cool 31 c. (the 7900 ran at about 45c)I use window xp 64-bit now. my 3dmark06 score with everything set to max with a res of 1600x1200 is5236 much better then 409 I reinstalled FalloutNV and the game auto set my graphics to Ultra tho for some reason it set the res to 1024x768 I changed it to 1600x1200 and it plays wonderful. So not a bad upgrade. All and all I spent (if you count the 2 Vcards I bought) $190 More then I was originally gonna spend but worth it.Heck I can even play GTA 4 on max settings tho with the res at 1024x768with that game the Gforce 7900 got 25 fps and I had to set it to the lowest settingsthe 4850 at the max settings and 1024x768 gets 43 fps
