Some sounds stopping, Esc menu not working

Hi everyone,

 

Yet another "HALP PLOX" topic, I sure hope someone can help me out here, because I`m slowly going insane already.

 

I went through the sewers with no problems, when I got out everything seemed fine. Starting to move into any direction, whenever I pass a cell border (doesn`t matter which), some sounds stop working (such as footsteps, swimming, weapon sheathing - but everything else works, such as ambient sounds) and the Esc key does not bring up the menu, so I can only quit the game through the console and additionally waiting doesn`t work either (pressing T doesn`t do anything). I can still look and walk around, etc. After about 5-10 seconds the game does a CTD with a nice 'Oblivion has stopped working' error (windows 7). If I don`t cross a cell border, the game works fine, sounds are still playing properly, etc.

 

After crossing a border and having the sounds stop, as well as the Esc menu not working, if I go back into the sewer, I just fall through the world and can`t get out of there anymore. If I go back to the sewer without having passed any cell borders, everything works as it should be.

 

Debug text (tdt) doesn`t give any errors or any info. I am using BOSS to sort my load order. Checking weOCPS.log I notice that Oblivion Crash Prevention System goes crazy too after passing a cell border and gives me several things like these:

Things I have already tried:

  • Used both versions 0019 and 0020 beta 5 of OBSE
  • Disabled OBSE
  • Disabled the Bashed Patch
  • Disabled Streamline
  • Disabled Deadly Reflex 6 (the Horse Combat ESM and all the ESPs)
  • Regenerated the Oblivion.ini file
  • Disabled sounds
  • Playing with or without Land Magic Patch.esp
  • Starting a new game with a new character
  • Playing with or without TES4LODGen having generated its stuff
  • coc to CheydinhalBlackWatersideStables, get out of the building and try to pass any cell border from there, same result.

 

None if this helped, everything`s still the same. I would really wish to avoid a reinstallation, if at all possible. I have played Oblivion before on this setup (two weeks ago, in fact), but I decided to reinstall because I wanted to upgrade from Deadly Reflex 5 to 6 and I figured it couldn`t hurt. Well... It did.

 

My bashed patch settings are configured according to the TES IV POSItive recommendations; wherever he said 'Safe', I have that ticked, except for Merge Patches.

 

For Tweak Assorted, I have the following settings ticked:

  • Bow Reach Fix
  • DarNified Books
  • Magic: Script Effect Silencer (tried disabling, same result)

For Tweak Settings, I have the following settings ticked:

  • Horse Turning Speed [x 1.5]
  • UOP Vampire Aging and Face Fix.esp

For Race Records I have nothing checked (except Race Records itself)

 

Additionally, SEWorld Tests is also checked.

That mod list is very difficult to read -- you should post mod lists from Wrye Bash by right clicking the File tab and select 'List Mods'. But it does show that you have reached the limit (255 Hex FF) for the amount of mods installed. Try setting Wrye Bash to Auto Ghost, to free up those mods slots that have been merged or deactivated.

My apologies, I`ve updated the post with a reformatted modlist.

 

I`ve only had 251 mods enabled according to Wrye Bash, that`s why I figured that reaching the limit shouldn`t be much of an issue. I`m going through the whole thing now, I`ve disabled everything and re-enabling just a few at a time to see when will the crash happen. I`ll keep this topic updated.

According to your Wrye Bash mod list, you have 249 (F9) activated and visible + 13 (**) merged/deactivated (and I don't know if they are visible to the game, because you have not mentioned if you are useing ghosting), but that adds up to 262 without ghosting. The game counts ALL esp and esm files in the Data folder, whether they are activated or not, that is why Wrye Bash's ghosting can grab you those valuable slots.

You`re absolutely right! At first I had no idea how to enable ghosting, but then I figured it out and it seem to have solved this problem. Thanks so much, Hickory! I had 343 mods in total inside my Data folder (254 of which are active now).

 

In case anyone else stumbles upon this topic and isn`t sure about the whole ghosting thing: Pressing Ctrl+A to select all the mods, right clicking, then choosing Ghosting -> Allow Ghosting does the trick.

You`re absolutely right! At first I had no idea how to enable ghosting, but then I figured it out and it seem to have solved this problem. Thanks so much, Hickory! I had 343 mods in total inside my Data folder (254 of which are active now).

 

In case anyone else stumbles upon this topic and isn`t sure about the whole ghosting thing: Pressing Ctrl+A to select all the mods, right clicking, then choosing Ghosting -> Allow Ghosting does the trick.

I had the same problem for Fallout: New Vegas and actually found my way here via google. Same thing works with Wrye Flash (a port of Wrye Bash) in case anyone else finds this via google.
