On the Creation of Caves

Recommended Posts

I'll be honest. I loathe cave design. Unlike normal square items, it's often extremely difficult to make sure that all pieces are lining up properly.

I've found the "PREFAB CAVES" that were a part of Honest Hearts, but they don't have any Epic Caves in there. Does anyone have some good solid advice on building caves so I don't have gaps in the floor, sides? The time it takes me to build one cave level is about triple any other level.

I wish to know your brilliance!

I do know that you use each corner piece 1-4 not just 1 and duplicate and rotate. I learned that and not to build at an angle that isn't at a 90° angle when making the large caverns the pieces never seem to like lining up.

Hope that helped,

Geoff

I had totally forgotten about this guide! I found it in my first weeks of creating GoE and lost track of it somewhere. I learned so much from it so thank you for pointing me back to it!

Good ole Dj, just don't make stuff on 0,0,0 in cells like he suggests. That can be a bad idea especially if you have placed projectiles (mines) in your cell. Someone else mentioned the issue with sounds bleeding from other cells in the same cell block, that's also a concern when doing that. Otherwise it's a very good guide to get started.

Is there any way to directly control the cell blocks? I'm concerned as some of the levels are massive (like 40 stories tall because of a central power core. We're using roombounds to prevent computers from exploding on entry).
