DDjusD
Okay, so I want to play games like Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas during classes. What I'm wanting to know is, is there any netbooks that are able to run Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas without stutter? If so, can I get a link? If not, should I get an ASUS G73SW-A1 17.3" Notebook? bben46
Netbooks tend to be fairly weak in their capabilities, low ram, small hard drives, weak processors and mediocre video. Also remember that in a netbook - as well as most laptops, the video subsystem and audio subsystem both share the same ram with the system - so even if the specs show 2G Ram, it may still only be 1G effective after the Video and audio steal their shares. However they are very good for what they were designed for - a lightweight and inexpensive way to access the internet for things like email and browsing. Quetzlsacatanango
They can barely run windows.
DDjusD
I really don't think you want to do that for a variety of reasons, anyway you should be paying attention in class!I should but, I already don't pay attention in the class. I sleep through it everyday and I have yet to see a grade below an 80 in it. Netbooks tend to be fairly weak in their capabilities, low ram, small hard drives, weak processors and mediocre video. I found a trusted reseller you can get it from who will also sell it with upgrades you specify. I'm going to go all out on it as I will definitely use it for trips and the such. Getting it with:- Intel Core i7-2920XM Extreme- IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU- 16GB DDR3/1333 Memory- 2TB Hard Drive- 6x Blu-Ray Read-Write/8x Super Multi Combo Drive- Intel Advanced-N 6250 /w WiMax Card- Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit /w Asus Clean Install DVD (Install OS /w no bloatware)- 3-Year Extended Warranty- ASUS Gaming Mouse (Free /w Purchase)- ASUS Gaming Backpack (Free /w Purchase) It come out to $3753.90 (Including Taxes and Shipping)A little more than an Alienware laptop which isn't as powerful.A little less than what I was expecting too. There are more features but they are not changeable ones so I left them off the list. They can barely run windows. That's a deal-breaker for me. I have always had Windows and would never use anything less (Linux, Ubuntu, Mac). Daynox
However they are very good for what they were designed for - a lightweight and inexpensive way to access the internet for things like email and browsing. and that is all those netbooks are good for...you can maybe hook up an externalt cd-rom as they dont have one and install games like........baldurs gate and such.. Okay I guess I'll stick with the Asus laptop, I was hoping I could get a small, lightweight computer to use. As for Alienware....they are a waste of money! You can build one of thier systems yourself for just over half the price if you know where to find the parts. Why you would want to spent almost 4k on a laptop is just beyond me

The thermal compund won't mean jack when all of that is already crammed into what is going to be a poorly vented, battery draining and incredibly heavy laptop. Maybe if you also buy a cooling pad with built in fan but otherwise it's an oven.16gb of Ram, really? Unless you're studying graphic design and need to make a detailed 3-dimensional town but current "next gen" games can only utilise 4gb of ram. Fallout itself was optimised for 32bit processors so without using a large address enabler you'll only be using 2gb of ram at any one time and even with the enabler you're game will cap out at 3gb.A two terabyte hardrive is completely unnecessary and much less stable than a single terabyte which is already less stable than a 500gb. If you want more space, don't want to blow your life savings and don't want to lose everything when it crashes just use an external 2tb hard drive. It's something else to carry but your laptop is already going to give you shoulder pains.Fallout for pc doesn't run on blueray and there aren't any games out there which fully use the space blueray provides, some ps3 games come close but that's only because the devs don't compress their files. If you want it for movies then yeah that's fine.Getting an intel graphics card is just a bad move, they have the lowest clock speeds and are the least reliable, if you want power but are fine with terrible drivers AMD is the way to go. If you want power but are fine with burning yourself get an Nvidia card.Windows 7 ultimate won't help you, as long as the OS is 64bit you're fine. On that note Linux, Ubuntu and other free OS are terrible for games as are macs. The warranty is a waste of money, either it breaks within the first year or you're smart enough to not run the laptop on your bedsheets or carpets and defrag, clean out with compressed air and run malware bytes once a month and it will live for as long as you take care of it.The gaming mouse and bag are both terrible quality, buy a proper laptop bag made to fit your screen and while each mouse is good for different people since we all have different hands Logitech make good quality mice. Call of Duty, WoW, etc...This laptop actually isn't poorly vented. Almost all reviews on the laptop after days of use for hours on end a day say that they don't feel much heat at all. The thermal compound is just a little more protection of the expense that the laptop would cost.I am in college. I'm here for video game and graphics design so the RAM comes as a bonus for doing projects and the such while on the go. As there is 4GB Enablers I would use those. This way I can have more texture mods :) And in the future I may get to use a 6GB or 8GB enabler. psychophat has test variants of 6GB enable that he may be releasing. http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39964It's not a 2TB Hard Drive, that was my screw up. It was a 1TB Hard Drive. But I usually have a lot of files and I haven't had any bad history with them in the past so I trust them.I have lots of Blu-Ray movies and always backup my documents, pictures, music, and videos onto Blu-Ray disks. The Intel Advanced-N 6250 /w WiMax Card is a WiFi card. I'm not sure what the graphics card is at the moment but I'll look later.I have have always gone Ultimate but I could cut that down to Home Premium.I always get the extended warranty as the extra protection helps with little accidents that are very common. The bag is meant for the laptop but I decided I won't get it as I want to show my support to DeviantArt and get their daPro bag. I also like to draw so it works out.As for the mouse, your right, its not great at all so I'll be getting a new R.A.T mouse for FPS games and a Microsoft Sidewinder X8 for others and internet browsing. For the concern of carry weight, it's either 10lbs for laptop, pens, and drawing pads. Or 15lbs of books, pens, notebooks, drawing pads, etc. By notebooks I mean the ones you write in. My original idea was just a small netbook laptop for Fallout series on the go but since that won't happen, I decided to just have an ultimate portable gaming computer. This way all my computer gaming needs are met while on vacations, business trips, etc. Sure some of the hardware will be out of date in a few years but It should be good enough to run most game for quite a long time. On the other side, it will be a good replacement to keep me from spending even more on a custom built desktop. My old one burned away with most of my other stuff. lol...i bought a $300 compaq laptop from bestbuy that runs FO and Oblivion like a dream and FONV with just slight slowdowns if theres a lot going on ingame. As for Alienware....they are a waste of money! You can build one of thier systems yourself for just over half the price if you know where to find the parts. Why you would want to spent almost 4k on a laptop is just beyond me :rolleyes:I'm sure we can all agree that Alienware is a big waste of money. It's either 4k on a laptop that can almost do what my old desktop could do or just get a desktop which is limited to my house and not traveling as well for even more.
