Help with SteelSeries Headset

Recommended Posts

Around 28 days ago I ordered and received my SteelSeries Siberia RAW Prism headset. It is a USB headset, works perfectly, great sound quality and microphone quality was brilliant, too. Now, however, I am having problems with it. It has been less than a month, and my PC will not recognise it. I don't have another computer to try it on, and I keep getting a particular error code, like so:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

When I turn the PC on, the lights on it illuminate perfectly, but everything else has stopped working and Windows will not recognize it. I've tried reinstalling my USB drivers, cleanly uninstalling all of my headset drivers, disabling all other audio devices, turning off my PC and unplugging it for 30 seconds, unplugging it and plugging it back in multiple times, changing BIOS settings, and nothing at all has worked for me.

Does anyone have any ideas? Am I going to have to return them?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, well maybe it would help to try and make sure your headphones are working-- try using them with another device(iPod, Computer, iPad etc.) If they are able to function on these devices, then It's your software. Either attempt to reinstall your audio drivers or try it on a clean boot of Windows OS. ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 ) You may want to try the Razer Surround tool(I use it,) it will both enhance your gaming experience and allow you to select a device input. The most common name for you Headphones are either, well, "Headphone" or your make and model.

If the problem persists, you can also try method 2:

To select the default audio device, refer these steps. Select the headset as the default.

a) Right click on the sound icon in the Notification Area and select 'Playback devices'.

b) A new window, called Sound, will open. In this window you will usually see the sound devices for playback, which are currently present in Windows 7.

c) Select the device you want to set as default and click on the Set Default button. When you are done click on OK to save the current configuration.

d) To select which device should be the default for communication and which device should do the rest of the work, click on the small arrow located on the Set Default button.

e) If clicked, the arrow will show you the two options. Select the device for communication, then click on Set Default - Default Communication Device.

f) Select the device for all other types of playback and click on Set Default - Default Device

g) If you want the Default Communication Device and the Default Device to be set on the same sound device just click on the Set Default button instead

Good Luck and Hang Tight! Remember to take a step back, take a deep breath and look at it from a fresh perspective. Ask people for advice ;)

I remain,

Azterix
