csgators
So much had changed that we decided to call the engine and editor by a new name, the Creation Engine and the Creation Kit. - Todd Howard, Game Director Source So it's really not a new engine, just the same engine re-vamped. I bet they changed the name and said it was a new engine to try and shut down all the whining about the engine. Personally I think its great. A completely new engine would mean they would have a lot of stuff to learn from scratch and reduce how many new features they could include. This will also help modders pick up on the new creation kit faster since it shouldn't be completely different.

csgators
To do that this time, we knew, like before, we had to start over. We needed to reinvent large parts of the game and its technology. We started with the graphics renderer, and how we would bring the scale of snow covered mountains, dynamic weather systems, and massive dragons to life along with the small details of how people lived; from the forks they used, to the fish they caught, and the meat they cooked. We then rewrote all the major graphics and gameplay systems including lighting, shadows, level of detail, animation, interface, scripting, dialogue, quest systems, melee, magic, and more. All of those changes made it into our internal editor as well. So much had changed that we decided to call the engine and editor by a new name, the Creation Engine and the Creation Kit. - Todd Howard, Game Director Where does he say that they got a brand new engine? You may be right but everything I've seen so far makes me believe it is the same engine with major modifications.
jhardingame
It is a new engine. Go back to the part where they said they We then rewrote all the major graphics and gameplay systems.Bungie did the same thing with Halo: Reach. They had an engine they were already using, but rewrote the base part, aka, the graphics and gameplay system, to make something new. It's not gamebryo, and it's not the same engine. Creation is it's own Engine, as it uses it's own source code to render graphics and support playing systems, not the code of gamebryo. KainReaver83
So much had changed that we decided to call the engine and editor by a new name, the Creation Engine and the Creation Kit. - Todd Howard, Game Director By these words, the Director clearly states that the engine is NOT new, just highly revamped to the point where they "decided" to call it something else, thus resulting in the "rumor" of it being a "new" engine. Whether it's a vehicle engine, or a gaming engine, something that gets highly modified does NOT mean its new unless its started COMPLETELY from scratch. I've also seen a vid on YouTube of (so called) leaked beta testing gameplay for Skyrim. (Can't really confirm if it is or isn't an actual vid that was leaked by Bethesda employees.) If it is the real thing, my first thought when I saw it was " they took the Fallout engine and revamped it." I don't have the link for this vid but you can search for "Skyrim Gameplay" and you should be able to find it. Watch out though... there's tons of YouTubers that have made "Skyrim Gameplay" vids when it was just a crappy vid or something stupid and not related to Skyrim in any way. (Hence my saying that I couldn't confirm if what I saw was an actual leaked beta testing gameplay footage or not.) In any case, I could care less if it is a new engine or not. Its Skyrim for crying out loud! We'll see who's right and who gets laughed at for being wrong when it gets released 11/11/11. -Kain

LordWushin
There is a limit to the amount of upgrading or improving till you get something new. I personally think the engine is in fact new, just by the looks. It may have a lot of the gamebryo stuff but it is different enough to have its own distinction from it. Anywho, I am so bored right now I just have nothing better to do than this stuff, awesomeness!!!
