Fatalmasterpiece
Looks like they are going with the trendy 300 shout thing that has been so big lately... Not impressed. But..but... elder scrolls lore contained stories of the great nord mages being able to use shouts as magic long before 300 came along... You should read the whole thread before commenting on an earlier post. Ah fair dos, I missed your reply to that other guy.. regardless, I still think the way they're doing it is the best. I know if I was facing a ten tonne, fire spewing reptile, I'd wouldn't be in the mood for suppressed chanting. The character may be the dragonborn but is still human and when human's fight they get loud and angry. Besides we only saw one shout, possibly the shout that slows time or heals wounds would be "shouted" in a more meditative style. Can't really say till the game comes out, probably that particular shout was the one which best fitted in with the trailer. TheCalliton
vocal strength is a sign of power to most, if not all societies. Look at animals, whoever is louder tends to win. Lizards hiss, rattle snakes rattle. Sound is powerful. To be able to shout magic like that would be held in high esteem in almost any society. Give it a nordic/ somewhat barbarian feel, and the shouters would be like gods!

What do you mean? Nordic Shouts have been in lore since Arena. Regardless to being in the lore, how they are presented is a matter of interpretation. The current interpretation is very 300-Beowulf-I'mSoMachoAngryMan yell. Something deeper, more chanty would have been less trendy, like in the 13th warrior. So you complain about the shouts being too trendy by saying that they have been done in movies before. Then you say you wish they would be less trendy, by saying they should be like somthing from a different movie... and had they done it that way, no doubt you would have complained about how they ripped that off as well... ub3rman123
They haven't confirmed much about how shouts work. Some might be channeled, some may be a sudden battle shout. From the GI Issue, it seems like you enter in a sequence of things to make a shout.

Not impressed at all Sarcasm Unfortunately true, though their elves are modeled after the Faerûnian Tel-quessir, which of course were inspired by the Eldarin originally... Dunmer live in fungus houses and have dark skin with red eyes, just like their Ilythiiri counterparts. Bosmer and Altmer being copied from the Or-tel-quessir and Ar-tel-quessir respectively. While Bethesda makes great games and puts them together spectacularly, their game world and lore is rather generic and cut and paste

Imagination doesn't work like that, you can improve on ideas but all ideas are based on something you've already experienced. Sure Bethesda could have made a world where all the trees were made of denim, randomly farted bubbles and occasionally spontaneously combusted. It would have been awful to play but hey, at least it'd be original right?
Fatalmasterpiece
@Kibble It's one thing to borrow concepts and plot devices, it's another to take a race and almost completely copy them, such is the case with Dunmer, and don't even get me started on Nords. They could have made the Dunmer have green eyes and their houses made from giant skeletons of long dead behemoths, and instead of being dominated by feuding empire families (like Ilythiiri) they could have figured something else out... But hey, your happy with it, that's cool, your entitled to your opinion, as am I and I'm free to express it, no "inadvertent trolling" required.
