Fallout NV Crashes after launching

I recently downloaded DLC Dead Money and it crashed my game after the slideshow plays out. So I deleted local content from Steam and started over. I reinstalled the game. Deleted FNV Mod Manager, and reinstalled that. Now I cant even play at all. Everytime I run FNVMM the game crashes with an error message, "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click OK to terminate the application." Clicking Ok brings up the "FalloutNV has stopped working" error.

Am I missing something or do something wrong. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated. I spent a lot of time searching the forums about this issue and have tried a lot of different things and have come up empty handed.

This question was already asked (yesterday?).

But here's the (hopeful) fix:

Go to My Documents/MyGames/FalloutNV and delete fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini BACKUP

This should work.

EDIT: After I read your post again, I noticed that you said that it crashes after a slideshow.

Do you mean the beginning loading screens (Bethesda Softworks, Obsidian Entertainment) or the Sierra Madre one?

If its the first ones, my post should fix it. If its the second one, then try quick saving and quick loading after entering the BOS bunker.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and tried your suggestion and keep getting the same message. Let me go back and explain a little better what happened.

I downloaded Dead Money. Here is where my problems started. Everytime I started the quest, I got as far as the part where you get gassed and then the slide show plays. When the slide show ends, it went to the loading screens with the spinning wheel. It would stay like that switching to different screens for about 3 -4 minutes before it stopped working (CTD).

So then I tried a lot of different things. Tried Validating cache, deleting local content and reinstalling, restarting steam.

Nothing worked, so I deleted FOMM (FNVMM) and tried reinstalling that. So I think I F***ed it up more, because now when I go to start the FOMM, it crashes. I tried to start from Steam and it crashes, then I tried from the launcher and it crashes. Each time it gives me that error message about the application not starting. So I'm kinda out of ideas and no one else seems to know how to fix it. I'm open to any suggestions. I feel like I may have to wipe the folder clean and start over but I don't know if that will make it better or worse.

Well, I deleted everything. Started over and have NO mods running. Only trying to run the launcher from Steam and my game still crashes after the second slide. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions. I welcome the feedback. Thanks.

That's a common problem, sadly I don't know how to fix this.

Dead Money is running crash free on my PC.

I will try to search for a fix and if I find it I will post it.

EDIT:

I have got a few things.

Try to quick save and quick load just before you hit the gas trigger.

Try placing ALL your items in the stash in the bunker (The one when you enter the building to the right.)

Try screaming at the cutscene until it lets you past the crash.

Good Luck

Yeah, unfortunately I tried all of those, even the yelling, but nothing worked so I just deleted the data folder and uninstalled. I then reinstalled FNV, then FOMM, then FNVSE. I then tried to run a "Normal" game without Mods and it crashes before the opening credits play out. Its very frustrating. Would you happen to know any fixes for this? I mean, I installed everything like it was the 1st time I installed it and now it crashes on startup.

Here are some of the other "fixes" I tried and these have not worked.

I opened Fallout.ini

Looked for the string bUseThreadedAI=0

Changed it to bUseThreadedAI=1

Added another line beneath the above, iNumHWThreads=2

Download dx9.dll file, placed file in ../steamapps/common/fallout new vegas, restarted steam and the game.

Launched the game in compatibility mode.

Opened “fallout.ini” or fallout_default.ini” and

Deleted: SMainMenuMovieIntro= , SIntroSequence=, sIntroMovie=Fallout INTRO Vsk.bik

Save and Exit “fallout.ini” or “fallout_default.ini”.

Go to “data” in fallout new vegas folder, then videos.

Find “Fallout INTRO Vsk.bik”, delete and back it up somewhere.

I also tried validating cache, restarting steam, anything I could think of plus all the other tips and suggestions. When I get to the Bethdesa Softworks screen the "In Game Community Tab" pops up and thats when I get the CTD. I don't know if that helps, but if anyone has any other suggestions that I have'nt tried, please share and I'll give it a try and post my results.
