someguynamedjoe
Hi everyone, I'm working on making a character who was cut from the game into a full-fledged companion; specifically, the Securitron Marilyn. So far, I've been able to change her from a Securitron MK.I to an MK.2, and I've got all of her animations working. I have a small to-do list, though, and since I've never done anything like this before, I was hoping to get some pointers from someone who has made a companion mod before. I will be using NCCS to make her, so I hope this won't be too hard. Aside from NCCS, absolutely nothing will be required to have her. TO DO LIST:Dialogue. I need to add dialogue to her, and I want to use Jane's voice for the greeting, saying goodbye, etc. Trouble is, I'm not sure where that is; I've looked for it in the filters, and I can't find Jane's voice. Is it hidden in something else?I want to make a teleporter item for her, but I'm not sure how. Any help would be highly appreciated. Any help will be MUCH appreciated, and will be fully credited. <3 Edited March 3, 2011 by someguynamedjoe
davidlallen
Interesting question. Using the geck menu choice "edit->find text" I can get close. Jane's full creature name is Lucky38Jane. Using the filtered dialog editor (the "cartoon dialog balloon" button on the toolbar) I can select this in "Filter NPC" and get all her dialog. Looking at Lucky38Jane in the creature list, I see that she uses voice type FemaleAdult05, which is curious. In some places I can see checkboxes that say "modulate voice", for example power armor can modulate any voice. But I do not see offhand where FemaleAdult05 gets modulated for Jane to make her sound like a robot. Anyway you can use this to get all Jane's dialog and probably you can do what you want from there. There are multiple threads on teleporters and companions, probably if you google "geck teleporter companion" you will get a bunch of hits here at newvegasnexus. someguynamedjoe
Thanks, I'll try that. I'll probably have her up for beta testing today. EDIT: Okay, I'm still having trouble actually substituting the NCCS generic dialogue with Jane's dialogue. Also, if anyone knows how to modulate the voice to make her sound like a robot, I'd really, really appreciate that. Would definitely love to hear if anyone has a good voice program that sounds like a securitron, need for a lot of different ideas. I saw some tutorials on filters in audacity & logic pro, but I'd hate to have to learn a new (and probably complicated) program just for the voices :(
davidlallen
I use goldwave for sound editing and it is real simple. There is an "effects -> mechanize" menu choice, then one button click to select from among 6 subtypes. If you have a sound editing program already, search "mechanize" in its help. I have just created > 50 lines of mechanized dialog for a female robot and it sounds great.
PaladinRider
Maybe keep her as a Mk1, but give a small quest to upgrade her to a Mk2. I guess if all Mr. House's securitrons were upgraded she would have been too. But maybe a similar quest as Rex and you can upgrade her to a Mk3? Good luck with this mod  Edit: And thanks for the info on mechanize voice, I too was looking for something like this.
