RoyBatterian
I have a number of old meshes that were created for Fallout 3 that are seemingly broken yet load into the game fine. I cannot view them in nifskope, nor load them into Blender or Max with the import tools. I really need help figuring out how to save these meshes as it's putting a damper on a mod project, as I can't assign new textures because I can't get the darn things to load. What do. mindboggles
Can you try saving them in the GECK as SCOL?
Jokerine
You could retexture them with TextureSets in the GECK, if they load fine there. Unless they're furniture, of course :pinch:
RoyBatterian
They are weapon meshes, and I need to do other things like add a sighting node.
Deleted1205226User
You mention "old", could it be related to the version of Nifskope (or its XML) used to save these?
RoyBatterian
I tried different versions of nifskope to no avail. I did find an old tutorial that showed pasting nodes into existing meshes (oblivion era) and I think that might be how these were created. I get offset errors when trying to load the meshes into any version of nifskope I've tried.
RoyBatterian
I've actually discovered what the issue is with some of these old meshes. At one time there must have been a nifskope version that was not updating the offsets when changing the texture paths. So if a texture name was 16 character, and the new one was 14, it wouldn't subtract 2 from the header offset. I was able to save one of the meshes by inserting a couple of 00 bytes onto the end of the texture names with a hex editor to correct the offsets. Then the mesh would load fine and I could sanitize and resave it without issue. Just thought I would post this up for anyone that has such a problem so they have some kind of idea how to fix it. There are quite a lot of these meshes in FWE for instance.
