Minimizer Utility

A nice utility to minimize Oblivion by the speed of light would be very nice. Suppose you were interrupted in a game by a person on your instant messenger, you would have to press alt-tab to gt out of there, only to suffer long loading times in and out of the game just to get to a conversation.

Well, suppose you made a minimizer? You would save memory in the program by keeping system resources in the program as it minimizes, so the loading times are much faster when switching tasks.

As is, alt+tabbing doesn't work too well with Oblivion, as in it usually crashes the game, or atleast causes some serious glitches. It isn't so much a processor issue as it is an issue with ram and video card. What takes so long, and often causes those crashes is your video card not being able to redraw or keep track of everything that happened while the game was alt+tabbed. Any such minimizer would have the same issues. The only real solution would be to just not have your messagers running when you're playing, while this may hinder your online social life, you will however notice slightly better in game performance. As is most people have to close out most other tasks to run Oblivion with reasonable speed, so this sort of thing probably wouldn't be too useful to too many people.

This is all assuming of course that someone had the skills to make a special loader to perform this task (which would probably require editing the .exe) and that such a thing is even possible, or legal. Essentially, don't hold your breath.

Not always, but doing that can help yes.

Another thing you can do is play the game in windowed mode. This means sacrificing a bit of resolution to get it to fit on screen properly, but should allow you to alt+tab fairly easily provided you press esc as prometheos says.

I've noticed something interesting:

Any programs that are running when you first tab out of oblivion in any one session become "anchors," much like an anchor for an oblivion gate. Say you have internet running when you tab out, if you close internet whislt still playing oblivion, oblivion will freeze. If you leave those apps running then oblivion should continue running normally.
