IamBatosai
Hey, my computer is getting really... cranky I guess. It will lock up for no apparent reason. alt-f4 won't close the program or bring me to the shut down option window. ctrl-alt-delete works a third of the time. Any ideas? Here's my computer: windows xp home edition service pack 2intel p4 CPU 1.60GHz256 MB RAMNVIDIA GeForce2 MX with 64 MB (I think)ASUS motherboard Don't you just love my hunk of junk? :P
Abramul
Run a spyware scan, defragment, and run a virus scan. One of those might help, and none of them can hurt. Personally, I wouldn't care to try running XP with only 256 MB of RAM, but it's implied in your post that this is something that recently developed. Have you recently updated drivers, installed a new program, or made any other changes to your system?

I've run all those and it still locks up. >:( The only updated driver is for the video card and that was in December. It started doing this about end of January. I've checked for new drivers to see if that would help but couldn't find any. The newest program is Corel Draw and Autodesk 3ds max 8 both trial to help with my game porgramming. Both are also legal gotten from a book on game programming. Any other ideas?
Switch
Egads, you're running Windows XP with 256MB of RAM? As Abramul says, I'm surprised you haven't run into problems sooner... Do the lock-ups happen more often when you've been using 3DS Max 8? Because I would imagine that's a fairly RAM intensive program...
IamBatosai
It's been running on that much RAM for a couple years now. It just started locking up recently though. It'll lock up while that's running every now and then. But it locks up most of the time for no reason like while playing freecell, opening up paint, or even notepad once. Edit: Ok, I removed some programs I didn't need. Then spent two hours defraging the hard drive and it doesn't lock up much now. Only once in the last two weeks. Thanks for the help though. :D
