MrBinho
Hello everyone. Let me just say, I give my most honest thank you to anyone who tries to help me through this. This won't be very short, but really, I feel like I should mention everything I remember so we can actually know what we're dealing with. It's really not a long read, I swear. I just felt like I had to explain this properly. BACKGROUND Here's the background. Arghus is an NPC from the mod Interesting NPCs. I have him in my game. Not too long ago I installed the mod Amazing Follower Tweaks, because I enjoy having companions and characters in general and thus I wanted to manage them the right way. However, after just a few hours of playing, I noticed that Arghus wouldn't unsheathe his weapon with me. He would follow me around, all the AFT options would work, all his dialogue, everything. He would even go into stealth mode with me... but he just wouldn't get ready to battle on his own. So, as it turns out, he would only start fighting once enemies were really on our face (I'm not sure what were the actual conditions, if the enemies had to hit him enough, or hit me enough, I just know that it took him way too long to start fighting).I dismissed him and went on a quest with Farkas, the Companion, the one just before you actually get "initiated", where you see *COMPANIONS SPOILER* Farkas become a werewolf for the first time and just before you can get a new weapon from the Skyforge *END SPOILER*. And as I suspected, Farkas would have trouble getting into combat too. ACTUAL PROBLEM With that being said... I finished that quest and came back to Whiterun to get Arghus. He would still have the same issue. However, it got worse. I told him to wait for me inside Jorrvaskr while I slept (for no particular reason, mostly very basic role playing). When I came back and tried to get him to follow me... he wouldn't. I could talk to him, he accepted following me... and then he would just stay there. Then I came back in my save, inside Jorrvaskr, and tried to dismiss him. He supposedly got dismissed... but he wouldn't stop following me. The dialogue shows the option to ask him to follow me again, yet he's still following me, and crouching along, and still not unsheathing his weapons. If I try to get him to follow me again, nothing happens. He accepts it, but once I talk to him again, the dialogue still says he isn't following me, and my playerfollowercount is 0. WHAT I'VE TRIED Fair enough. I went back to that same save inside Jorrvaskr I just mentioned, and tried resetting Amazing Follower Tweaks. That should completely undo everything that mod has done to Arghus (after all, I'm pretty sure this problem has something to do with that mod). ...aaaand he's still following me.I reset it again and actually uninstalled AFT. ...aaand he's still following me.After uninstalling, I made a new save and used the SaveTool (I think it's called Save Script Cleaner or something like that? The file is SaveTool.exe) to try and clean things up. Used both the "FixScriptInstances" and the "Delete all #" options. It found a bunch of stuff, and got rid of it.Loaded the new, supposedly now clean save. ...aaand he's still following me.I used the console commands resetAI, disable and enable on him. ...aaaaand he's still following me. Now I reckon it's about time I asked for help. So that's my story. That guy is following me everywhere in a bugged follower state. I'm fairly sure that, if that's still happening, any other followers that I get are gonna be in the same state of having difficulty to engage and fight, possibly bugging out like my old pal Arghus did. (but just in case, I'm gonna go make sure of that as soon as I wake up. Not right now, because I'm off to bed soon enough). Once again, sincerely thank you for reading this and trying to help me. I'm running out of ideas, and I really don't want to have to create a new save (but of course, should we arrive at the conclusion that that's the only available course of action, I guess I'll just do it, Shia style.) SOME BASIC INFO JUST TO BE SURE Skyrim latest version, all mods latest version, all official DLCs latest version. SKSE latest version, NMM latest version. Got 38 plugins in total and active (would've been 39 if Amazing Follower Tweaks hadn't been uninstalled), including the official ones (Skyrim, Update, DLCs). Used LOOT to manage load order and clean everything it told me to clean. I believe this is the LOOT log, but I'm not sure:messages: - content: "[Latest LOOT thread](http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1519842-rel-loot-thread-19/)." type: say - type: say content: Your SKSE is up-to-date. plugins: - loadsBSA: false modPriority: 0 isActive: true isEmpty: false name: Skyrim.esm isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false crc: 3328572758 version: "" - messages: [] tags: - name: C.Location - name: Delev - name: Invent - name: Relev isDirty: false name: Update.esm crc: 113893092 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: -999999 isGlobalPriority: true - name: Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp crc: 703367028 version: 2.1.3a isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: -999000 isGlobalPriority: true messages: [] tags: - name: C.Acoustic - name: C.Climate - name: C.Encounter - name: C.ImageSpace - name: C.Light - name: C.Location - name: C.Music - name: C.Name - name: C.Owner - name: C.Water - name: Delev - name: Graphics - name: Invent - name: Names - name: Relev - name: Sound - name: Stats isDirty: false - name: Dawnguard.esm crc: 838424920 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: -999000 isGlobalPriority: true isDirty: false messages: [] tags: - name: C.Location - name: Delev - name: Graphics - name: Invent - name: Names - name: Sound - isDirty: false name: Unofficial Dawnguard Patch.esp crc: 3326123049 version: 2.1.3 isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: -999000 isGlobalPriority: true messages: [] tags: - name: C.Climate - name: C.Encounter - name: C.Location - name: C.Name - name: Delev - name: Graphics - name: Invent - name: Names - name: Sound - name: Stats - name: HearthFires.esm crc: 857218036 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: -999000 isGlobalPriority: true messages: [] tags: - name: C.Location - name: Graphics - name: Invent isDirty: false - name: Unofficial Hearthfire Patch.esp crc: 1737319936 version: 2.1.3 isDirty: false isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: -999000 isGlobalPriority: true messages: [] tags: - name: C.Climate - name: C.Location - name: C.Owner - name: C.Water - name: Graphics - name: Invent - name: Names - name: Sound - name: Stats - isDirty: false name: Dragonborn.esm crc: 368869217 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: -999000 isGlobalPriority: true messages: [] tags: - name: C.Location - name: Graphics - name: Invent - name: Names - isDirty: false name: Unofficial Dragonborn Patch.esp crc: 517807039 version: 2.1.3 isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: -999000 isGlobalPriority: true messages: [] tags: - name: C.Climate - name: C.Encounter - name: C.Location - name: C.Music - name: C.Name - name: Delev - name: Graphics - name: Invent - name: Names - name: Sound - name: Stats - name: Skyrim Project Optimization - Full Version.esm crc: 4264796177 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: false modPriority: -998000 isGlobalPriority: true messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - name: ClimatesOfTamriel.esm crc: 2441642407 version: 3.1 isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - name: SkyUI.esp crc: 563646906 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - name: Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Major City Interiors.esp crc: 905560838 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: false modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - loadsBSA: false modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false name: Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Minor Cities and Town Interiors.esp crc: 2555306594 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false - name: dD - Enhanced Blood Main.esp crc: 2137442359 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - name: dD-Dragonborn-Dawnguard-EBT Patch.esp crc: 4214324868 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: false modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - name: dD-Reduced Splatter Size.esp crc: 2285909086 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: false modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - name: dD-Reduced Wound Size.esp crc: 2110383281 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: false modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - name: Auto Unequip Ammo.esp crc: 1262064966 version: "" isActive: true isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: [] tags: ~ isDirty: false - isEmpty: false loadsBSA: true modPriority: 0 isGlobalPriority: false messages: - content: - str: Do not clean ITM records, they are intentional and required for the mod to function. saurusmaximus
I believe there is a 3dnpc patch for aft on aft's mod page. But, at this point I think you will first have to get him completely out of his 'following' state. So first, click on him in the console and type the following:removefrom faction 5c84eremovefrom faction 5c84cremovefrom faction bd738 He should no longer be an active follower after that. Now,save and close your game. Then, go to the aft mod page and download and install the aft_inpcfix_1_00 . For full disclosure, I've never used this personally so I can't attest to how it works, I just know it exists. Hopefully this will get you going again. MrBinho
Oh, wow. There was a compatibility patch. I didn't even consider that possibility, but I obviously should have. Oh well, I'm still a newb in all of this. Bright side is, it's very likely that you found the problem anyway. Hoooowever, the command "removefrom" apparently doesn't exist. So I did a quick google search and it seems the actual command to remove NPCs from a faction is the same as the one to add them, but with a "-1" in the end. So I didaddfac 5c84e -1addfac 5c84c -1addfac bd738 -1 And he's still following me. Should I still install the fix? With him still following? EDIT: I went to a slighty older save, where I had successfully managed to dismiss him. I noticed that the 3dnpcfollowercount (command for the mod Interesting NPCs) was 1 instead of zero, and thus I changed it back to 0 (since Arghus wasn't following me anyway in that save). Then, instead of trying to get Arghus to follow me again, I hired that mercenary from the Huntsman tavern in Whiterun (can't remember her name, nor the tavern's name. But it's a dark elf in light (I think Leather) armor. Jenessa, maybe? Something like that). And I can hire and dismiss her with no problem. However, she still won't unsheathe her weapons with me, and I think that indicates the problem hasn't been entirely solved. Right now I'm going to dismiss her, clean my save and then wait 24 hours before trying to hire her again. If that doesn't fix the unsheathing/fighting, I'm out of ideas again - unless you still think I should just install AFT again, this time with the iNPC fix. EDIT 2: Didn't work. Tried that lady from the Whiterun tavern that wants to brawl you this time. Once again, no problem following and dismissing, but still won't unsheathe her weapons. MrBinho
Right now I'm assuming the problem is due to AFT messing up with its configuration on Arghus. Here's AFT's Info -> View menu I get on Arghus. Notice his name and race.
saurusmaximus
Sorry about the console commands, I think I put a space in the wrong spot  . Anywho, If you got a save where he isn't broken yet, that's good. If you haven't already, move AFT to the very bottom of your load order and see how things go. Loot likes to put it mid-pack, which usually causes troubles like this.
vram1974
If you're really desperate and you don't care if the NPC disappears forever you can just type "disable" in the console.
Lexigon5
I had this problem and found a simple fix. No re-setting AFT, No patch for AFT and no console commands. Just click: "Tweak Options"Then "Actions"Scroll down to "Dismiss Normal" I did get one my other followers leave me without being dismissed when I did this but I just asked them to follow me again
