A little help with FCOM

Hello all,

 

I've been working on getting FCOM going for my Oblivion. I followed their instructions to the letter, however I am getting CTD "Oblivion has stopped working" upon attempting to make a new game, it crashed after the beginning cut scene.

Your load order looks fine. It's the same as mine in anycase, minus the MMM install. The only mod you have that I dont recognize is Oblivion graphics extender support. What does that mod do? Could it be the source?

 

The only other idea that I have is that you did not build your bashed patch correctly. Actually one other idea that I have is whether any of those mods require obse. I have been using obse and fcom for so long that I dont honestly remember. If any single one of them does then that is likely your issue. Other than those 3 things I am uncertain what could be causing the crashes.

A little confused, what do you mean minus the MMM install? Did I not properly install MMM via FCOM instructions?

Check and double check your Bashed Patch. Here is my canned guide:

 

 

 

When you press 'Rebuild Patch', make sure that you check the following:

 

Merge Patches

Import ... [Go through each 'import' option and if there's a mod, not csv in the right window, check it, and the Import... option.]

Cobl Catalogs [ONLY if you use Cobl]

Contents Checker

Leveled Lists

Race Records

SEWorld Tests [ONLY if you have Shivering Isles installed]

 

The Globals and Tweaks are optional, but should not be checked unless you know what you are doing, and should be left alone while you are troubleshooting. Everything else should be left unchecked UNLESS you know that you need it.

FCOM: INSTALL PROCESS THAT I USED

Second post contains a good way to go about installing FCOM with (OOO, MMM, Frans, WarCry). I don't use the steam version so make sure you adjust for your specific needs. Make sure you are building the batch patch correctly. There are some areas you do not want to check-mark for OOO, and WaryCry.

 

 

FCOM: CTD ON START WITH MY SETTUP & HOW I CORRECTED IT

 

I had an issue with my install that was caused from DarN UI. It adjusts the oblivion.ini file and something got screwed up there. After reinstalling DarN UI it fixed the issue. I found this by pulling out the esp's that where unnecessary and under suspicion for the cause, one at a time. I just pulled them out of the oblivion/data folder and placed them on my desktop, also untick from Wrye Bash and rebuild the bashpatch every time to check. I know, it's a long and tedious process but I found the issue that way.

 

 

TIPS

 

-From what I understand, FCOM is somewhat modular so some people don't use all of the mods. I do believe OOO is the base mod and is necessary. I personally try to use all of the available mods for FCOM; just a suggestion.

 

-The Oblivion Graphics Extender adds shaders through the inventory menu. You do not need to use that, there is a shaderlist.txt method that will force the specific shaders. It is however, up to you how you want to go about applying those shaders. Either way is fine. I personally had to use the shaderlist method to get godrays working.

 

-On another note, get FCOM working before you dive into other mods such as OBGEv2. Think of FCOM as the absolute base, then build off of it once you get it working. OBGEv2 can have some issues to deal with so I would suggest holding off on it untill FCOM is solid.

 

-Make sure you're building the batch patch correctly with the FCOM requirements. You can find more info by following the above link [look in the TES POSITIVE tutorial] AFAIK the batch patch is not optional. It makes the whole merge possible. I would recommend using COBL as well. It pulls most if not all the mod-added items into the weapon/armor/item pool for the game. The cosmetics portion is not necessary, I did not use it.

Well I tried some of your suggestions, and decided that something went wrong in the original set-up. As all the parts work fine by themselves, but when combined with FCOM its CTD every time after main cut-scene.

 

I'll give it another go with a fresh install and follow your set-up Mad.

hmmm, well if by main cut scene you mean that you're starting a new char...

You might want to try taking the OBGEv2 shaders and files out. Godrays can cause a black screen bug. If you're absolutely sure it's a CTD then disregard this post. Otherwise do the complete reinstall by following the three guides.

 

I personally think it's a good idea to learn how to install FCOM completely. It's a good way to learn how mods interact and how you can effectively merge/introduce new-existing ones. Also, once you feel that everything is installed and working, make sure to get into the "coc testinghall" to insure all your textures and mods are installed and working correctly. You can google search for detailed info on the coc testing hall portion when you're ready for that.
