Help with changing vertex colors on Dragonborne Wave mesh

I'm working on a tropical world space specifically for screenshots. Inspired by the Waves mod I decided on import the nifs also in this mod.
However upon inspection, I noticed that the base color and transparency of the wave is done through vertex colors rather than through the texture.
Nifskope can change vertex colors but only through individual input per vertex.


As you can see in the pictures, it really doesn't match the environment. Would it be in anyone's expertise to fix this?

PS. stripping the vertex coloring on the mesh doesn't work as also the transparency of the mesh is done here. That and the UV lay-out is kriss-kross.
