To Dual or not to Dual?

Recommended Posts

So what are your opinions on Dual screens?

Useful? Not useful?

If you have dual screen show your setup, im curious to see how people set theirs up.

Here is mine, I have 3 screens, Left to right -- My laptop--My acer 18.5"--And a insignia screen with VGA, HDMI, TV, and other inputs with speakers.

Let me know what you think.

I use twin 19" monitors.

I have found it to be infinitely handy, however, I generally only run games on one screen.

Nice, and same here, it gets annoying using all the screens on one thing.

I like them for multitasking and what not, Its sooooo useful.

Ah, the perfect place to ask. I have been planning to save up and get a 22" monitor to go along with my 20" 4:3 (22" as the main). Would I suffer a major performance hit if I had games on the main screen (Fallout, DA 2, Mass Effect 2) with other apps on the 19" screen (Firefox, MSN Etc...) The 19" monitor is 1280x1024 and the 22" will be 1680x1050 (Or whatever they are) Edited by TheReverendTholomewPlague

After I set up a tri-monitor set, I find it hard to use any other computers with just one monitor. The extra size is amazingly useful.

The only drawback is that some games might not work on fullscreen mode (Okay, I've only had this problem on Oblivion, and it fixed itself). You won't be able to manipulate other applications while playing a game, particularly the kind you can't alt-tab from like Oblivion/Fallout.

The extra screens can be a bit disorienting some times, though, particularly when you're setting up at first and trying to get them in order. It also can made it hard to precisely click on things at the edge of the screen when you're used to relying on the border to put the mouse in the right spot. The changes in monitor size can be difficult to deal with, so it's best to put the same sizes of monitors together.

I use dual 20" and find it very useful for when I see something and want to check it out . Just open a second browser on the other screen and google it. I can keep multiple pages in the Nexus forums open while doing something else. It's great for copy paste from one to another.

Only drawback, can't play games on multiple monitors yet. So far all games default to one monitor.

I tried combining monitors, but the bar directly in the center makes it hard to see things.

I use a free program named multimon to help manage them. Available here:

I remember there was a program for Oblivion somewhere that ran it on three monitors, but I don't recall the name. And when I installed it the two side monitors really messed up. Half the left one was inverted horizontally for some reason.

Minecraft works pretty well, but the inventory screen is bugged.
