Medieval suit of armor

Now the idea of actual suits of real historical armor from medieval times is actually pretty awesome and would be able to easily added to the game without breaking the lore seeing as it could have been salvaged from a museum. The armor could also maybe have a bit of a more rusty/ruined texture if someone wanted to make it so. Here's a picture below to give you a basic idea.

So the key on this one would be to search the oblivion nexus for a suit of armor that is original work (not an edited game armor) and has open permissions or a author that will allow the use of his/her assets. I'd like to say any suit of armor in Obj form could be used from the countless PD model sites, but I think that's too optimistic for my skill level. I often find that there are a wealth of details that can come back to bite you in the *ss, and if the model is already in nif format (even older nif's like oblivion) it's just a heck of a lot easier. Plus they are already rigged and such (although rigging something like that it isn't hard, it's all one material, no weight painting different values, etc).

The only snag is that I know the .obj format specs, and it has no such thing as rigging. It's just vertex coordinates, texture coordinates, and how they're linked into polygons. So you'd still need to rig it to a skeleton from scratch.

I'm not too worried about the rigging, but let me give you an example of the last one I tried. It was a nazi commander in obj format. After importing it into nifskope and converting the the textures from TGA to DDS I realized there was no UV map. I would like to be able to import and convert obj format models because that seems to be the most common denominator among 3d modeling programs. I should be working on it (just like I should be learning to animate and xml). However if you can point me toward a tutorial or some other resource I will try to get a handle on it.

How about this one?

Looks good, but I believe I'v tried sending Backsteppo a PM before and I don't believe I received a reply. I'll give it a shot. There is also a NV port here, so that may fulfill the OP's request.

How does one install a Fallout3 mod in New Vegas?

You port them over. When your just talking models (same format) it's pretty easy.

Ah crap. Yeah, no UV unwrap is just... incomplete.

Well, _I_ am worried about rigging because I never learned to do it. And you know I didn't, because otherwise there'd be a mod where you exit the house wearing Doc's pants on your head, while he screams after you, "Hax! You can't tag Sneak four times!" ;)

(Hey, I loved Ian's Oblivion comic:p)

Hmm, if you're not worried about rigging stuff, that does open up some room for cooperating for that medieval VR project of yours. I could do a few armour pieces, but, as I was saying, I just can't rig those pants to stay on the head for the life of me ;)

Cool  I'm not an expert at it or anything, I let blender do most of the work. Then I run the models through their animations and move any messed up vertices into more appropriate groups (bone or envelope). I usually just use a weight of 1 (as it's often "good enough"), so I rarely even weight paint. But anything I can do to help (time permitting). I appreciate any assets you can contribute (and ideas of course), you do great work.
