Oblivion won't go past the first loading screen

The intro video's play fine, but when I get to the loading screen that leads to the main menu the bar fills up a sliver and the game just freezes.

 

I'm running Windows 7 64bit with a Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 and 4GB of ram. My Steam folder is installed outside of 'program flies' so I know that's not the problem.

You never say if it ever worked. If so, what have you changed since then?

Are you starting with OBSE?

Do you have the latest patch?

I am assuming you are using the steam version as you did comment on having your steam installed outside of the program files folders.

Have you used BOSS to sort load order?

Yes I have used BOSS multiple times.

 

If OBSE Isn't running I can't tell because its in my oblivion folder where it should be.

 

The Steam GOTY Edition hasn't updated so I don't know about the patch part, though it is set to auto-update.

What version of MMM are you using? Your list shows Mart's Monster Mod - Reduced Spawn Rates.esp but that does not exist in the latest version (nor is it recognised by BOSS), and the previous version's reduced spawn plugin was Mart's Monster Mod - Spawn Rates - Reduced.esp

OBSE is not a mod, it does not load like a mod or act like a mod. It is a script extender for the game files themselves. And it MUST always be started INSTEAD of using the game supplied Oblivion launcher. When OBSE runs, it starts Oblivion using it's added features.

 

OBSE has a game launcher as part of its download - However, If you use the steam version of OBSE, the install is slightly different to allow steam to start Oblivion with OBSE.

 

Here are the instructions directly from the OBSE readme that comes with OBSE (ALWAYS read any readme or other documentation that comes with a download - it may not install like you think :thumbsup:)

 

IF YOU ARE USING THE STEAM VERSION OF OBLIVION:

 

1. Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_steam_loader.dll to your Oblivion directory. This is usually "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion".

2. Launch Oblivion via Steam or by running Oblivion.exe. OBSE will automatically be run along with Oblivion when launched. To disable this, rename or move obse_steam_loader.dll. You do not need to use obse_loader.exe unless you are running the editor.
