Reality Check

I don't know why, but suddenly the realization has sunk in that I am going to Marine Corps boot camp in 22 days. I wouldn't say I'm scared, but definitely anxious. I will be scared when I'm there, I'm not afraid to admit it. For those who don't fully understand, Marine Corps boot camp is the most intense boot camp of any military branch. Especially in the first few weeks you are there. Here is a minuscule glimpse of what I'm going to be expecting...

So you can see where the anxiety is coming from.

No, I'm sure it's going to be a good experience, I really want to go and I know it won't be like this the entire time. Speaking of which, the entire time is roughly 3 months, depending on your performance. Being overweight, physically weak, getting injured, or just doing stupid things will set you back. But I'm very excited to go and do something with my life. Being a Marine is something only about 200,000 people in the world get to do, and there's around 6,775,235,741 people in the world, so that says something.

Anyway, I just had to say that to get it off my mind so I can focus on the now a little better.

Well good luck my dear :)

Navy boot camp wasn't pretty lol...can't imagine what Marine Corps is like. I didn't make it through the Navy's, I got injured early on and they booted me out for it. My boyfriend was in the Navy for a few years, he told me the first week or two I was in was the worst.

Lol no, they are just regular drill instructors. The funny thing is that these guys are kittens compared to Vietnam era D.I.s Ever seen Full Metal Jacket? I dunno if I would survive boot camp if my D.I. was Gunny Hartman. Edited by krimzin

Once a Marine always a Marine!

My uncle is a Marine and served as a Scout Sniper in Vietnam for the last few years of the war.

I have nothing but respect for the Marines and I commend you for your decision to serve!

Thank you very much. It's motivating when people show respect to the Marines like that. My great-grandfather was a scout sniper too. During WWII, he lost his twin brother on Iwo. Back then boot was around 30 days but they were all like:

So, understandably, those 30 days felt like 30 lifetimes.

Well Krimzin you have picked the toughest Boot ordeal possible, only suggestion is focus on each day by itself and eventually you will come out the other side. Marines have nothing but respect from me, if it were not for them pulling my sorry carcass out of some very unpleasant surroundings I would not be here. Semper Fidelis and good luck my friend.

Congratulations Krimzin and good luck to you. I have several friends of all ages who are marines. They consider it a brotherhood for life. I hope it will be more of a self growth journey than anything.

Semper Fi!!

Hey thanks for your comments everyone, I love hearing good things about the corps. It really drives me to succeed. I don't think boot will be easy, but I know it can be accomplished if I set my mind to it. I'm really looking forward to it.
