xXxAkikoHarunoxXx
Hello there! I'm having an issue with the NPC voice files not playing during dialogues in Oblivion GOTY edition (with the latest patch, of course). Here's some basic info that might help: -Computer is on Windows 7 32-bit-I have BOSS, OBMM, OBSE, Wrye Bash, etc.-I have used OBMM and Wrye Bash as well as BOSS and LODGen to try to fix this problem-Bashed Patch was rebuilt every time I made the slightest change to any mod-I unpacked both voice BSAs into my Data folder-I used OBMM, Wrye Bash, and LODGen after that-My game has a no-DVD crack (thing that makes it to where I can play w/o the Oblivion DVD in my disc drive) placed on it that has worked the whole time it's been there-None of my mods have been giving me any trouble with sound before this But my brother has been messing around with my sound settings trying to make my computer produce better sound with some success. Maybe that could be it? Please help? I have mods with unvoiced dialogue so it doesn't bother me too much, but it's getting rather annoying, especially since the out-of-dialogue voices work. xXxAkikoHarunoxXx
Please help, guys? I really don't know what to do here! (I have a fair amount of experience with modding and my mods have only given me occasional problems, and all my mods are installed correctly.) bben46
I see 3 possible sources of your problem. 1. unpacking the BSA files. - try putting the original BSAs back. The game was designed to run with them. 2. Messing with sound settings - Oblivion doesn't like certain audio codecs. Remove any third party codecs. and reinstall the audio card drivers. 3. No CD program. - Rename the no cd program to disable it, then try with the original DVD in the drive.
xXxAkikoHarunoxXx
1. unpacking the BSA files. - try putting the original BSAs back. The game was designed to run with them.Sorry. I meant that I extracted the files from it into the Data folder. The files were already there, I believe; I just wanted to make sure all the necessary sound files were there. The BSAs are where they've always been. 2. Messing with sound settings - Oblivion doesn't like certain audio codecs. Remove any third party codecs. and reinstall the audio card drivers.I don't know what an audio codec is (I don't know a whole lot about computers, just how to mod games for them) and my computer is running on-board audio (I think), so there would be no audio card drivers to worry about. 3. No CD program. - Rename the no cd program to disable it, then try with the original DVD in the drive.Like I said, that program in particular has given me no problems. I'm not even the one that put it on there; it was brother who likes to do random things to my computer, and he has all the DVDs. The problems w/ my game have always come from mods, but none of the many mods on my game right now have given me any trouble in the past. Looks like the best solution would be to get the DVDs from my brother and reinstall Oblivion with them, then each mod one by one. Good thing I've kept all my mod files. Thank you for your help. xXxAkikoHarunoxXx
-My game has a no-DVD crack Cracks are frowned upon in the Nexus sites. As posted above, it was my brother that decided to put it on there so he could play Oblivion, too. I was not aware that they had such a negative connotation. Edited March 21, 2011 by xXxAkikoHarunoxXx
Qwaxalot
You will get a lack of dialogue if you have Oblivion set to use a center speaker, and you don't have one.

Sounds like it may be it, but I have no idea what you mean by center speaker. I have a five-speaker sound system with a subwoofer, if that's anything at all like what you mean. *doesn't know very much about computer hardware*

I looked at my audio manager and I do have some audio codec and an audio driver.codec: ALC850driver: 6.0.1.6305audio controller: nVidia (026B) (That's exactly what it said. Are any of those known to have problems with Oblivion?)
xXxAkikoHarunoxXx
The problem was that my audio manager was set for a 6-channel speaker system, which I have and Oblivion doesn't seem to like having the sound set to. Guess I'll have to switch to 2-channel mode to play Oblivion properly. Feel free to delete this topic. The issue is resolved.
