Building a computer isn't an easy task, first, you need to spend a good deal of time comparing parts (knowing what all the specs mean) and making sure that they're all compatable with eachother. Second you need to know how to put it all together without frying/breaking anything in the process. Third, you need to already have all the necessary software (not the bundled stuff that came with your current computer) to make the computer do anything. Unless you know what you're doing, and already have the software (legally) on hand, it's far less expensive to buy a prebuilt one. Most of the costs associated with a computer are processor, software, and videocard, while you're paying more for labor and sales price, you're saving more for the software. You also get a warrenty and tech support on a prebuilt one, whereas you may be stuck with an expensive doorstop if you build your own.
