Questions about Roach's body textures

they're tga lol, just uploaded as png. Sorry for the confusion XD

It's even more weird considering Gimp shows the tga transparency just fine it seems... must be some issue with my photoshop settings... I will look into it and see if I can fix this also.

Btw. I'm thinking the tail we both found in horse\draft has got to be the tail we've been looking for, but there is still something wrong with how we are getting the xml into the game since the mane doesn't work either.

Edit: so apparently photoshop cs6 doesn't have a tga plug-in that makes the alpha channel for transparency show up as normal, but it's there (I just wasn't seeing it because I didn't have my Channels window open - I never use it, lol)

I'm glad you got it figured out! :)

I just did another test with the mane. Exactly the same steps as last time, with the only difference being I used RGB.

255 / 255 / 255 = white

And left the 4th default value alone:

16. <param name="VarianceColor" type="Color" value="255; 255; 255; 255" />
18. <param name="SpecularColor" type="Color" value="255; 255; 255; 230" />
35. <param name="VarianceColor" type="Color" value="255; 255; 255; 255" />
37. <param name="SpecularColor" type="Color" value="255; 255; 255; 230" />

Absolutely no changes... :(

I wondered if Hairworks might be interfering, but after setting it to Geralt only, still nothing...

Oh, I also tried another test with the tail, using those 3 textures in the common\textures\hair folder. I re-coloured all 3 to white, and saw no changes at all, which is really weird. The last time I tried that, I only re-coloured 1 of them (to bright yellow) and I did see a little bit of yellow mixed in with the brown. *sigh* This is so freaking confusing and frustrating. :(

If we could figure out how to mod the mane, we could test that tail as well, just to be sure. But I'm completely at a loss as to what we're doing wrong...

I'm wondering if those colour values are indeed RGB. I found some info about RGBa (RGB with alpha/transparency) and from what I read, the 4th value doesn't need to go above "1". 1 is for 100% opacity, and if you wanted, say, 75% opacity it would be 0.7.

Yet, the default 4th value in these xml's are way above "1". For example, from the lines I've been editing/changing, they're 255 and 230. Also, just above the VarianceColor is a line for Translucency, and that value is "1".

But, from the CMYK colour charts I've looked at, none of the values go above 100. So it can't be CMYK either...

/emote tears out hair :(

Updates before I fall asleep on the keyboard:

Neyjour, theoretically your batch files from posts ago are fine - at least their logic is correct. I confess I got a little lost in the middle, too many lines of specific commands to keep on, and I only tried doing it using a .bat like 3 times before completely losing my patience.

And... it is RGBa. The Alpha value can be given by 0-255 values, percentage (0-1) or even hexadecimals, It's just a matter of program preference. And try not to mess too much with the SpecularColor, it is just the light reflection on the object, its "shine". It may end up looking weird.

And... I just uncooked and extracted the files from the Official ModKit Sample. The only thing useful there is the Unicorn mesh, if so. The final Unicorn looks like this:

No purple mane :(

Are you sure you saw such miracle?

Good nite you all

Thanks for attempting to look over those steps (and .bats). I appreciate it, and I'm really sorry it was so frustrating.

I'm glad to hear it is RGBa. I didn't realize there could be higher values. All the info I pulled up with a Google search was saying 1 or less. :sad: Anyway, at least that's one less thing to wonder about, if we're doing this right or not. I just don't understand why I'm not seeing any differences at all, no matter what numbers I plug in.

Thanks also, for testing the unicorn. I never installed the mod myself. I just assumed it had a purple mane (and possibly the tail as well) from seeing this picture: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt now with the mod support

I'll try some more RGBa codes tomorrow, but if I don't get any results, then i just don't know what to try anymore.

Yeah I never saw the purple mane until that picture you posted, lol, so I was confused as to what everyone was talking about. In the Quick Guide Roach just has the default hair. I think that picture might be shooped :] maybe you can see the pixels

But yeah. I think we are doing it almost right... (I tried modding other hair files also, specifically Geralt) and nothing happened. So it's not just Roach.

Maybe it's the files themselves. When you look at certain files what size are they? Here's mine:

h_02_hd__simple.w2mesh 751 KB

t_01_hd__hairy.w2mesh 3,130 KB

the mane mesh seems awfully small, and I confess I haven't tried to edit the tail yet, so I will see if that does anything now.

If they photoshopped the screenshot that's promoting their MODkit, that's just... Well, I'm not going to say what I'm thinking, or else I might get banned from the forum. But I'm guessing you're right. If it was an actual mod of the mane, why wasn't it included? Doesn't make sense.

Anyway, here's my files. Looks like we have a difference with the tail. And what's your filesize for the other part of the mane?

h_02_hd__simple.w2mesh = 751 KB

h_03_hd__simple.w2mesh = 1,551 KB

t_01_hd__hairy.w2mesh = 3,140 KB

Here's the download link for my tail:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/gs7kbnj0vztlp33/t_01_hd__hairy.w2mesh?dl=0

I'm assuming mine is OK. If it was incomplete/corrupted, It probably wouldn't have opened in Open 3D Model Viewer. Or, at the very least, I would have gotten some kind of error message. But I really don't know for sure. I've done a lot of texturing for Poser over the years, but I've never worked with meshes.

Crap, missed that typo, my tails is also 3,140 KB. I guess coffee hadn't kicked in yet :D

h_03_hd__simple.w2mesh is 1,551 KB

but I'm not sure if that's also the brown horse mane. Didn't the gray horse use to have a lighter colored mane and tail? I tried to find the picture I saw before but maybe the comment was deleted or I'm just not seeing it now...

or maybe I saw it in a dream. I've been having dreams about Roach and her hair a lot recently :|

I don't remember seeing a pic of the grey horse. But on page 2 rivianbleidd said he/she had used both of those mane meshes to mod Roach's mane.

Glad your files are OK. I just got my own cup of coffee a few mins ago. I think I'll need to drink it all before I start fiddling with colour codes again. :P

You're having dreams about this? I'm starting to have nightmares. Hehe. *sigh*
