daizey
Hello everyone :) I am new to the oblivion game (just bought it 2 days ago). I am used to downloading content for my sims games but this seems a little more complicated at the moment. I want to know what I am doing wrong... I really wanted to instal Saram, I save the zip file to my desktop, once downloaded I open the zip, see that the contents are the mod itself, and 2 folders containing textures and meshes. I place the esp file in my data folder, but the problem is with the other 2 folders (mesh and texture) They both contain many folders inside them and for the life of me I don't know what I am to do with them. I tried just placing the files inside the specified folders, then opened oblivion and checked the box in the data, started up the game and there was nothing.... I did download the babe hair without a problem, minus the fact that I find the top of my characters head looks a little bald wearing the mod... can't figure that out? Also I have the fallwig instaled and it too has a balding top issue, but other than that it does show up in the game. I just don't understand how to instal saram mods since there are so many files in the folders. Could someone please explain to me what I am doing wrong... I have read the instructions but I can't seem to do it right. I feel like such a noob! I would love it if I could get this mod installed as it is just beautiful! LHammonds
New to Oblivion and modding it? To save yourself a LOT of headache and undo misery, I strongly recommend reading the following article in its entirety: Oblivion Mods FAQ EDIT:If you activate a plugin and it does not show up in the game, odds are that you have an unpatched version of Oblivion. Either patch it up or back-rev the plugin. Before getting to far into this, make sure you did not install Oblivion in the default folder under "Program Files" (noted in the Oblivion Mods FAQ)For installing mods, I highly recommend you use Oblivion Mod Manager. You need to learn how to convert existing mod archives into OMOD so I created a "how to" site (in my sig)Enjoy modding your game,LHammonds
daizey
"New to Oblivion and modding it?" Yes I can't help myself... I bought this game because it's cool and I like that I can mod it. It gives the game a more personal feel to it  Thank-you for the link I will read it all!! Okay, I downloaded Oblivion through steam.... It downloaded to program files (x86) on my windows 7 64 bit. Will the mod manager work with Steam? fg109
I think that if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, it's recommended to install Oblivion outside of the Program Files folder.
LHammonds
fg109, you are correct, however, daizey said it is Steam so he is limited to where he initially installed Steam. You don't get to pick the installation folder when you install Oblivion via Steam. When I installed Steam, I knew better than to install to the default folder but only because I knew about Oblivion modding and Vista/Win7 UAC issues. I think bben wrote an article on how to move a Steam-installed Oblivion to a different folder. I'll see if I can find it. EDIT: Ah, see the below post. Oh, regarding my question about "new to oblivion and modding it" the key term I was referring to was "AND" meaning that you are new to Oblivion AND new to modding it...meaning you probably have not seen much in the way of tutorials and helpful info such as the Mod FAQ. bben46
Steam has the instructions for moving here: How to Move your Steam to another location Without having to reinstall anything.https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?p_faqid=
daizey
Thank you everyone who has replied. It looks like I have a lot of reading to do lol. I love this game already, it is a lot of fun. For now I am going to read all that you have given to me before I dive in and start modding. I guess the first start is to move my Steam folder  . Thank you all again! bben46
@Elguin250: Attaching your problem to someone elses topic is called thread hijacking and is against the rules. That gets you a strike warning on your first post here. There is no extra charge to start your own topic where your problem will be the only one discussed so it doesn't get mixed up with some one elses topic. Just click on the start new topic either at the top or bottom of the page. Making your post with large characters and lots of exclamation points isn't against the rules, but is considered impolite. And could get your request ignored. Now, if you were to look up at the top of the forums, you will see topics labeled as pinned. If you look through those, there is one, in the 'Oblivion Mod Talk' section called 'How to install Plugins and mods' Please read it before asking for help with installing plugins and mods. Remember, if you have more questions, please start your own topic. If you can't find it, here is the link. http://www.thenexusf...ll-pluginsmods/ BTW http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-signs046.gif
